The Plank and Buckler was a type of heavy shield used in England during the 9th century. It was buried with King Wehha of the Angles, the earliest known member of the House of Wuffingas, in the belief that it would protect him in the afterlife. Some while after his death, the shield was looted from his grave and its location was lost to memory.
During her travels, the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan acquired this shield from a chest at Sutton Hoo, East Anglia.[1]
