Pineios is a river flowing from Thessaly, Greece, to Peloponnese. It is named after the Thessalian river-god, Peneus.[1]

Mythology[edit | edit source]

According to Greek mythology, the hero Herakles redirected both Pineios and the Alpheios River to flow into Elis and clean out King Augeias' stable as part of his Twelve Labors.[2]

Influence[edit | edit source]

During the Peloponnesian War, the Peneios Camp in Elis was named after the river.[3]
