The Palais de Justice (English: Palace of Justice), formerly the Palais de la Cité (English: Palace of the City), is located on the Boulevard du Palais on the Île de la Cité in central Paris, France. It is one of the oldest surviving buildings of Palais de la Cité.

History[edit | edit source]

The building was originally built by King Philip IV in 1296. It was the place from where he consolidated the dispensation of justice, although the judges soon became infamous for their corruption.[1]

During the French Revolution, the palace was used as a courtroom and prison where Marie Antoinette and other prisoners were held and tried by the Revolutionary Tribunal.[1][2]

After the Assassin Arno Dorian renovated a café in the Palais de Justice district, he received a letter from the Assassin Council, instructing him to eliminate thug captains extorting citizens. By doing so, he allowed the citizens to cross the bridges without being extorted, effectively liberating the district.[3]
