Orestes was a legendary king of Sparta and Argos who lived during the Trojan War. He was the son of king Agamemnon and queen Klytaimnestra, and thus the brother of Iphigenia.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Post-mortem[edit | edit source]
After his death, Orestes' bones were brought to Sparta from Tegea on the advice of the Delphic Oracle. A tomb was established for him near the center of Sparta.[1] A statue revering Orestes was raised in the agora of Gytheion.[2]
During the Peloponnesian War, both Orestes' tomb as well as his statue were visited by the misthios Kassandra.[3]
