The Ochre Caves, currently called Clearwell Caves, were hidden caves that were found within the forested area, Aelfwood, Glowecestrescire, England.
History[edit | edit source]
In 876, Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan tried to clear her name of ealdorman Tewdwr's "murder," and went to stop High Priestess Modron from sacrificing Tewdwr. After investigating Aelfwood, she found a hidden passage to Ochre Caves. Sleuthing through the caves, she bypassed Modron's soldiers and found her way into Modron's lair. Eivor overheard Modron chanting and readying Tewdwr to be sacrificed. Before Modron's knife struck upon Tewdwr, she stopped Modron and confronted her on her betrayal and mischievous ways. However, Modron proved to be unapologetic about her actions and challenged Eivor to a battle.[1]
Despite her home advantage and her skill with a bow, Modron was defeated by Eivor. Left beaten, Modron was told by Eivor that Tewdwr was going to be ealdorman to all, but Modron was unconvinced. Modron told Eivor that men will lie and that Eivor's future would have some ominous consequences. A ghostly Odin appeared to Eivor and reminded her that although her intentions were for the pagans, Modron framed Eivor with the offense on dishonorable murder. Afterwards, Eivor decided Modron's fate, with Gwenydd present, as she later left with Tewdwr to go home for the festival's end.[1]
