The Nestorian Monastery was a monastery in the north of Baghdad, located in Harbiyah's remote sub-district of Zubaydiyah. Surrounded by the Ditch Sluice of the Fief and the Greeks' Gate, the monastery belonged to a group of Christians who followed the teachings of the theologian Nestorius.
History[edit | edit source]
During the 860s, the Alamut Hidden One Basim ibn Ishaq visited the monastery's cemetery and met a monk, who sought his aid to recover remains that he felt would benefit the community as relics rather than being buried in the ground. The monk's acts of desecration drew the attention of the Caliphate guards, who sought to punish him. Basim defended the monk and helped him eliminate the guards.[1]
Around the same time, Basim also recovered the Tafsir al-Tabari beneath the monastery's crypts,[2] and an outfit dye for the Abbasid Knight outfit under a tree.[3]
