Odin at Mjolnir Smida

Mjolnir Smida (Runic: ᛘᚢᚬᛚᚾᛁᚱ ᛋᛘᛁᛏᛅ) was the dwarven forge in northern Svaladal, Svartálfaheimr where Thor's hammer Mjölnir was created.

History[edit | edit source]

In Eivor Varinsdottir's visions of Odin's time in Svartalfheim, the Æsir lord discovered the forge atop a mountain and recalled the time the dwarven brothers and blacksmiths Brokkr and Sindri used it as part of a bet between Odin and Loki about the blacksmiths' skill and their creations' quality. Despite Loki's efforts to distract Brokkr when he transformed as a fly, Mjölnir's design was deemed superior in spite of its flaw of a slightly shorter handle. With this contest ruling alongside approval for the other creations of Gullinbursti and Draupnir, Loki lost the bet and should have paid for it with his head he wagered, but he managed to scheme his way out of his promise.[1]
