Miltos

Miltos is a red mineral substance which was rare and thus considered valuable in ancient Greece. The island of Keos was the main source of miltos, and the economy of its main city Koressia was dependent on the pigment. The substance was used to paint triremes to help maintain them, and for this reason Athens especially was after the substance.[1]

During the Peloponnesian War, the misthios Kassandra learned about missing miltos cargo lost at sea and investigated it. She found the shipwreck and its miltos shipment near the Wailing Cavern around the island of Lestris.[2]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

The Greek word μίλτος (míltos) denotes something 'red', 'ochre', and even 'blood'. Despite the definition, the ingots that appear in Kassandra's inventory have more of a stone grey coloring and texture to them.
