Menelaus was a King of Sparta and the husband of Helen in Greek mythology. He was also the younger brother of Agamemnon, who was known for leading the Greek armies in the Trojan War after Helen was abducted by Paris. He was preceded by Tyndareus and succeeded by Orestes.

After his death, a sanctuary dedicated to him and his wife was erected on a hill situated southeast of Sparta.[1]
