In 823, after the brothel madame Maryam's business collapsed, a young Roshan found work as the bookkeeper for the thief Dervis in Karachi. While working for him, she learned that her former mentor Bakhit was still active but his explosive devices were still in transit, and often went through Dervis first. Not wanting the deaths of citizens on her conscience, she usually disabled the devices' explosives and packaged them to be obsolete. Despite her work, her stay in Karachi was brief, as she moved with Dervis to Fustat.[1]
A year later, a hooded stranger rescued Roshan from prison and hired her to join his group of mercenaries for a covert retrieval mission.
