Kadmos was the legendary founder of the polis of Thebes in Boeotia, Greece. According to legend, when his sister Europa was stolen away by the Greek god Zeus, Kadmos chased after them.[1]

The akropolis of Thebes was named Kadmeia in honour of Kadmos.[1]
