James Weeks (died 28 May 1864[1]) was a free African-American dockworker from Virginia who founded the historic neighbourhood of Weeksville in Brooklyn, New York City in 1838, 11 years after slavery was abolished in New York.[2] He was a descendant of the Colonial Templar Jack Weeks.[3]
