Isabella d'Este (19 May 1474 – 13 February 1539) was Marquise-consort of Mantua during the early 16th century. Daughter of Ercole I d'Este and wife to Francesco II Gonzaga, Marquess of Mantua, she was an important figure of the Italian Renaissance.
While her sister-in-law Elisabetta Gonzaga actively struggled against Cesare Borgia and his family,[1] Isabella was a shrewd politician who negotiated with him. In 1503, she gifted the general a hundred carnival masks to congratulate him on his victory at Sinigaglia.[2]
In 2012, she was included in a mnemonic set in Abstergo Industries' Project Legacy.[3]
