Io:nhiòte (fl. 1796) was the daughter of the Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton. The youngest of Ratonhnhaké:ton's three children, she inherited the rare ability of Eagle Vision from him.
Biography[edit | edit source]
At some point during the 1780s, Ratonhnhaké:ton married a native woman from a nearby tribe and had a son and two daughters. In April 1796, he took Io:nhiòte far from her mother's village to teach her how to track and hunt despite her tribe's tradition about training women because of his three children she was the only one with "the gift". While they were hunting a deer, the young girl acted recklessly and fell from a small cliff drop, spraining her ankle. Ratonhnhaké:ton left his daughter behind to look for cold water at the river in order to bring the swelling down.[1]

While he was away, Io:nhiòte noticed fresh wolf tracks nearby and tried to warn her father of the predator's presence, but he was too far away. In the sky, Ratonhnhaké:ton's daughter saw an eagle above her, and in her distress, she somehow connected with the bird. Flying towards Ratonhnhaké:ton, the eagle screeched a warning just as the wolf leapt on the Assassin while he was collecting water from the stream. Ratonhnhaké:ton put down the wolf with his Hidden Blade and discovered that the wolf was driven mad by a festered wound after being shot by a musket.[1]
Returning to Io:nhiòte, Ratonhnhaké:ton was amazed to find that she was aware of his encounter with the wolf because she had seen it through the eyes of an eagle. Realizing the extent of her potential, Ratonhnhaké:ton stated that he had indeed a great deal to teach his daughter.[1]
Legacy[edit | edit source]
In 2017, Io:nhiòte's genetic memories were relived by the Master Templar Juhani Otso Berg, who sought to learn more about Ratonhnhaké:ton's life to benefit his duties as the Black Cross. The relationship between Io:nhiòte and her father proved particularly impactful for Berg, as it made him reflect on his relationship with his own daughter, Elina.[1]
Personality and traits[edit | edit source]
Io:nhiòte wore a shell gorget necklace in honor of her grandmother, Kaniehtí:io.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Io:nhiòte (pronounced yo-nee-hyo-deh) is an archaic word meaning "rainbow" in the Kanien'kéha language.[3]
Although Io:nhiòte has not been confirmed to be an ancestor of Desmond Miles, if she were it would explain how Abstergo Industries had access to her genetic memories, considering that the way they gained access to her father's memories was through Desmond's DNA.[4]
