Ignacy Ioakhimovich Hryniewiecki (Игнатий Гриневицкий; c. 1856 – 1881) was a Polish revolutionary and a member of the Narodnaya Volya during the 19th century. He was responsible for the assassination of Tsar Alexander II of Russia, who was secretly influenced by the Templars.
Biography[edit | edit source]
On 13 March 1881, Hryniewiecki and three other members of the Narodnaya Volya intercepted the Tsar's cavalcade with homemade bombs. Carrying out the attack near the Catherine Canal as his cavalcade passed by, Hryniewiecki's bomb was the one to deal fatal damage to the Tsar.[1]
However, Hryniewiecki himself was also caught in the blast, and his allies could not retrieve him. He later died from his wounds in the Court Stables Infirmary.[2] His actions led to the instability of the Russian oligarchy and set the stage for the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917.[3]
