Hellebore is a term used for any of around 20 species belonging in the genus Helleborus. Most of them are poisonous.
History[edit | edit source]
During the Peloponnesian War, a Mytilenian scholar claimed to have created an elixir which cured petrification. For the elixir, she needed hellebore, certain mushrooms from the Mushroom Cave, and some bile from the cone snails.[1]
In the 1st century BCE, the poisoner Melina used hellebore and hemlock to create the concoction which was used to make the sacred crocodiles of the Temple of Sobek, among them Petsuchos, sick and irritable.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Though the plant indicated to be hellebore in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey appears as a plant with white flowers, in the inventory the flower is pink. Historically, the species of hellebore growing around the area are greenish.[3]
