Giacomo Girolamo Casanova (1725 – 1798), simply known as Casanova, was an Italian adventurer and author during the 18th century.

Biography[edit | edit source]

During his travels, Casanova made the acquaintance of various luminaries of his time.[1] He met the French writer and philosopher Voltaire in 1760 at the court of Frederick the Great in Potsdam. During a trip to Vienna in 1765, he met the musician and composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, with whom he discussed music and the arts. In 1783, he met the American Ambassador to France, Benjamin Franklin, in Paris. The German writer and polymath Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, he met in 1788 at the spa town of Teplitz in Bohemia.[2]
