Sir George Gilbert Scott (1811 – 1878) was an English architect.
In 1857 he was selected by then-British Prime Minister Derby to design the reconstruction of the Foreign Office in a Gothic revival style. Before he could begin however, Lord Palmerston was elected Prime Minister and demanded that Scott build the Foreign Office in a Classical style — a style Scott hated.[1]
Years later, in 1865, Scott's design for was chosen by the Midland Railway Company for a new hotel to be constructed adjoining St. Pancras station — the Gothic revival-designed Midland Grand Hotel.[2]
