Alexander's Shield

The Alexander's Shield was a rare shield alleged to have belonged to Alexander the Great, the King of Makedonia. Said to have been forged by Hephaistos, the Greek god of blacksmiths, the shield was also rumoured to be the Shield of Achilles.

Around 47 BCE, the shield, along with a scepter, was found by the Medjay Bayek of Siwa within an old temple ruin in the Isolated Desert.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Alexander's Shield is a Pelte type with cutouts typical for the Archaic Greece period Dipylon/Boeotian shields. The winged scarab design appears similar to the pectoral of Tutankhamun exhibited in The Global Egyptian Museum.[2] This is in contrast to its rumoured providence as the Shied of Achilles with its decorative imagery of various aspects of Greek life as described by Homer.

The shield first appeared on the cover of Assassin's Creed: Origins, and was featured on the game's cinematic trailer and on the Bayek Figurines.[3]
