Alaat (died 1190) was an upper-class citizen of Damascus who resided in the city's Noble District during the Third Crusade. An elderly man by the end of the 12th century, he frequented the bathhouse of Upper Street.
Biography[edit | edit source]
In the time preceding his death, Alaat made an enemy of a Romani woman named Fajera. The enmity of this circus dancer was such that, in 1190, unbeknownst to Alaat, she requested the Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad to eliminate him in exchange for her key to the Temple of Sand.[1]
Altaïr honored the deal and was escorted by Fajera into the Noble District. Guided by the Romani's knowledge of Alaat's location, the Assassin navigated the sewage system to infiltrate the bathhouse from below. Once there, he quickly identified Alaat, who at first derided Altaïr as a palliard, unaware of his nature. The Assassin only casually chided that their roles were rather reversed, and the unnerved Alaat frantically began to scream for his guards. It was to no avail, however, as Altaïr swiftly leapt into the pool and silenced him with his Hidden Blade.[1]
