Ellette

Ellette was an Anglo-Saxon noblewoman and flyter who lived in Colcestre in Essexe during the 9th century.

Ellette was often accompanied by her servants west of the Colcestre Barracks, and when the Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir challenged her to a flyting duel, Ellette's servant accepted on her behalf. However, Ellette lost the duel and had her servant pay Eivor the silver she had wagered.[1]
