The Dover Fortress was a large castle in Kent, England, situated on the edge of the Dover Cliffs. During the 9th century, it was notably used by the Order of the Ancients to train their Zealots.
Circa 874, the the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir travelled to the fortress in pursue of an emissary of King Aelfred of Wessex, who held an important letter on the next ealdorman of Kent.[1]
After tracking down the emissary and recovering the letter, Eivor also explored around the fortress, recovering a trousers, a Book of Knowledge and a nickel ingot.[2]
