The Dome of the Ass (Arabic: Qubbat al-Himar) was a semicircular tower built as part of the Taj Palace complex in Baghdad.
History[edit | edit source]
Completed during the reign of Caliph al-Muktafi, the tower was located in the southwestern corner of the palace and fitted with a spiral staircase with a such gentle slope that the caliph could ride to the top on a donkey and from there gaze on the surrounding countryside.[1] Described by medieval scholars as very great in height,[1] the tower was mostly destroyed in 1154 and ordered to be demolished and leveled in 1178, after a partial reconstruction was attempted.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The Dome of the Ass, as it appears in Assassin's Creed: Mirage, is anachronistic since the tower along with the palace would not be built until 40 years after the time period depicted in the game.
