Dead Chest Island is an island that is part of the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean.
History[edit | edit source]
Sometime during his life, the infamous pirate Edward Thatch, better known as Blackbeard, visited the island and marooned fifteen of his crew members there as punishment. Thatch left each sailor with a cutlass and a bottle of rum, and when he returned later that month, he discovered that most of the men had already died.[1]
In 1774, the Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton traveled to the island in search of a fragment of a map which hinted towards the location of a treasure hidden by Captain William Kidd. Once on the island, Ratonhnhaké:ton pursued a mercenary who held the fragment. After killing the man, Ratonhnhaké:ton collected the map fragment and left the island.[2]
