It is also the first breed of shark that the player will encounter in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, due to it's common appearance in the north, unless the player decides to rush the main storyline and skip harpooning.

A bull shark

Bull sharks (Carcharhinus leucas) are a group of shark species commonly found worldwide in warm, shallow waters along coasts and in the rivers.

History[edit | edit source]

During the early 18th century, the pirates Edward Kenway and Adéwalé hunted bull sharks for their valuable bones and skin. The sharks could also be found roaming underwater shipwreck sites, deterring the divers from recovering the sunken treasures. They frequented the Gibara and Dry Tortuga regions of the Caribbean.[1]

Around the same time, the French pirate Alonzo Batilla also sought out the sharks, though he fished for them instead of hunting.[2]

Behavior[edit | edit source]

Unlike great white sharks, bull sharks tended to swim in fairly straightforward patterns, making them relatively easy to hit with harpoons. When retaliating against attackers, bull sharks adopted a more erratic approach, before going straight for the whaling boat.[1]
