Bodil Bodilsson was a Norseman who reigned as a jarl of Lunden during the city's occupation by the Great Heathen Army in the 9th century.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Considered one of the three "Great Jarls of Lunden", Bodil was known to be a peacekeeper, which allowed him to outlive the other jarls of his time. During his tenure, Bodil constructed the Bodilsburg Garrison, which became a stronghold by the 870s. Bodil and two of his sons, Bjorn and Thor, later died of a plague prior to 873. His remaining son, Erke, went on to become a reeve of Lunden, serving under governor Tryggr.[1]
