Bissau is the capital and largest city of Guinea-Bissau.[1]
History[edit | edit source]
In the early 18th century, the fortified city of Bissau was hugely popular with Portuguese sailors[2] and merchants, who set up a number of trading posts along Bissau's coves.[3] Taking advantage of the booming economy, the Welsh pirate Edward Kenway sent wine, tobacco,[2] and rice to the city.[3]
