An ink painting of two adult hares in the act of 'boxing' each other.
In mating season, the male rabbits become very persistent in their advances toward the females, chasing them around in their attempts. Some of these efforts are so insistent that the females must resort to a type of boxing to fend them off. This behavior can continue for weeks, with some boxing sessions turning particularly fierce.
