History[edit | edit source]
During the Siege of Bergen op Zoom in 1747, Edward Braddock of the British Army set up camp in Zwolle. On 17 July, his soldiers captured the deserter Tom Smith and Braddock's fellow Templar Haytham Kenway, mistaking him for Smith's accomplice. The two men were sentenced to hang, and though Haytham managed to escape, Smith died at the gallows before Haytham could question him about the kidnapping of his half-sister, Jennifer Scott.[1]
