The Captain's Sword was a sword of moderate power prevalent throughout Italy during the Renaissance.
History[edit | edit source]
In the latter half of the 15th century, it was supplied by many blacksmiths in their shops across cities such as Florence, Venice, Forlì, San Gimignano, and Monteriggioni.[1] By 1500, however, the sword had become a specialty item of blacksmiths in Rome, requiring that it be traded for three terracotta pots, two totems, and two Buddhist prayer beads.[2]
By the spring of 1504, the Assassin Mentor Ezio Auditore da Firenze had acquired this sword, using it when he was ambushed in the countryside by bandits en route to Florence.[3] In 1511, a Captain's Sword was added to the armory of the Assassin headquarters in Constantinople during Ezio's time with the Ottoman Brotherhood of Assassins.[4]
