Abraham Lincoln (1809 – 1865) was the 16th President of the United States, serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. Lincoln most notably led the United States through the constitutional, military and moral crisis during the American Civil War.
Biography[edit | edit source]
Presidency and the Pinkertons[edit | edit source]
After the detective agency Pinkerton foiled the Baltimore Plot to assassinate Lincoln, he later hired them as his personal 'secret service' during the American Civil War, during which time the group garnered a reputation as America's go-to office for counter-intelligence and security operations.[1]
In early-1862, Lincoln and his wife Mary Todd, personally invited the Italian opera singer Adelina Patti to perform for them following one of her American tour concerts.[2] Later that year, on 3 October, Lincoln met with Allan Pinkerton and Major General John A. McClernand upon the main eastern theater of the Battle of Antietam.[1]
Gettysburg Address[edit | edit source]
On the afternoon of 19 November 1863,[3] President Lincoln gave a speech during the American Civil War, dedicated to the Soldiers' National Cemetery,[4] over four months after the Battle of Gettysburg where the Union forces defeated the Confederate army.[3]
Assassination[edit | edit source]
On 14 April 1865, Lincoln was shot by Templar-affiliate John Wilkes Booth and died the next morning. After his assassination, Booth was hunted down and killed by the Assassins.[5]
Legacy[edit | edit source]
His face was added to Mount Rushmore located in South Dakota, in 1937.[6] Desmond Miles, while growing up during the early 2000s in the secret Assassin community known as the "The Farm" located in the Black Hills nearby to Mount Rushmore would look up at the monument and appreciate it.[7]
In 2012, during his time in captivity as a subject for the Abstergo Industries' Animus Project, Clay Kaczmarek relived the lives of his ancestor who fought during the Battle of Gettysburg and overheard Lincoln's famous Gettysburg Address.[4]
In a November 2013 email chain, Abstergo Entertainment supervisor Melanie Lemay revealed that she had a great-great-grandfather who was known to have also come into contact with Lincoln a number of times as a Union soldier during the Civil War.[8]
