Sigrblot was a pagan festival celebrated by Norse people during the Viking expansion as a sacrifice to the gods in hopes for victory in war. It was celebrated a month after the vernal equinox to usher in the summer raiding season.
History[edit | edit source]
Sigrblot festivals were held at Ravensthorpe, where the settlement was furnished with altars and other decorations.[1] Residents gathered supplies for the upcoming raiding season,[2] prepared offerings to the gods,[3][4] and tested weaponry in an arena.[5] Flyting[6] and orlog[7] were also part of the festivities.
A specific Sigrblot was held at Ravensthorpe in 885 as they prepared to join Vikings under Sigfred in his raids against Paris and Charles the Fat.
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
As part of Assassin's Creed: Valhalla's post-launch content, a Sigrblot Season event was added to the settlement mechanic for a limited time. The first in-game event ran from 29 July–19 August 2021,[8] and the second event ran from 4–25 August 2022.[9]
