Idk if we really need original Sanskrit here, doesn't seem relevant since Oppie self-translated instead of it being academic/published translation for public

"I am become death, the destroyer of worlds."
―Oppenheimer, reflecting on the atomic bomb's first test, 1965.[src]-[m]

Julius Robert Oppenheimer (1904 – 1967) was an American theoretical physicist and professor of physics at the University of California, Berkeley.[1]

Biography[edit | edit source]

Oppenheimer is best known for his role during World War II as the scientific director for the Manhattan Project, an American initiative to create the first nuclear weapons.[2] In the summer of 1945, Abstergo Industries authorized the tests for Oppenheimer's atomic bomb, intending to end the war with a nuclear explosion to bring the turmoil necessary to build a new world.[3] On 16 July, the first successful test of the atomic bomb was dropped at the air base at Alamogordo, New Mexico.[2]

In 1965, when asked to reflect on what went through his head at the time of the explosion, Oppenheimer quoted a verse from the Hindu scripture Bhagavad Gita's tenth chapter, which he translated as "I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."[1]

Legacy[edit | edit source]

In 2012, the Assassin Clay Kaczmarek collected details on Oppenheimer's involvement with the atomic bomb while Abstergo held him captive at their Animus Project laboratory in Rome. He then hid the information within the Animus 1.28 in Glyph puzzles for his successor, Desmond Miles, to find.[3] Sometime in early September,[4] Desmond solved the puzzle set titled after the Gita's famous verse, in which Oppenheimer was revealed to have been unwittingly affiliated with Abstergo.[3] Around 2013, the Initiates gathered more information on Oppenheimer and presented it in their own database.[2]
