Layout of Fort Arsenal

Fort Arsenal was a stronghold in New York City that was occupied by gang members during the mid-18th century. It was later liberated by the Assassin-turned-Templar Shay Cormac and became his personal headquarters and residence.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

In June 1756, Shay Cormac saved the Templar Christopher Gist from execution via hanging on the fort's grounds. Upon realizing that his ship, the Morrigan, was anchored at the nearby docks, Shay cleared the area of gang members and took possession of the stronghold, using it as his residence.[2]

The fort was decorated with war spoils acquired by Shay through missions he oversaw strengthening the influence of the British Empire during the Seven Years' War.[3] Other art pieces such as Still Life with Glass Flask and Fruit by Jean-Baptiste-Siméon Chardin were also displayed.

By 1776, the residence had been torn down and replaced by Fort Washington.[4]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

The interior of the building does not match the layout of the structure as seen from the outside.

Given the fort's absence in Assassin's Creed III, it is possible that it was destroyed in the Great Fire of New York, with Fort Washington subsequently being built over its remains.
