Soar River is a river in Leicestershire, England, connected to the Tame and Trent Rivers.
History[edit | edit source]
In 873, the Vikings Ubba Ragnarsson and Sigurd Styrbjornsson set up camp on the marshes between the Soar and Trent Rivers during their search for Queen Æthelswith, who was hiding at the nearby Templebrough Fort. After capturing and interrogating the nearby patrol guards for information, they were met by Sigurd's step-sister Eivor Varinsdottir, who agreed to enter the fort and locate Queen Æthelswith alongside Sigurd.[1]
After Æthelswith's deception was discovered, she attempted to escape by boat on the river alongside a guard, but was eventually caught by Eivor.[1]
