Periander (died c. 585 BCE) was a Tyrant of Korinth, reigning from 627 to 585 BCE. His rule marked a prosperous era for the polis and made it one of the wealthiest city-states in Greece.
During Periander's reign, the seaport town of Lechaion was built, serving as a harbor for Korinth. He also erected a monument for his wife after he slew her in a fit of jealousy.[1]
