The '''Assault on Armagh''' took place in 882 in the early stages of the 9th century reign of {{Wiki|High King of Ireland|High King}} [[Flann Sinna]] across [[Ireland]]. It was fought between the forces of the High King and the forces under Abbot [[Eogan mac Cartaigh]].

==The Assault on Armagh==
After evidence was found by High King's ally [[Eivor Varinsdottir]] of the [[Raven Clan]] of Abbot [[Eogan mac Cartaigh]] being the founder of the zealot cult, the [[Children of Danu]],<ref>''[[Assassin's Creed: Valhalla]] – [[Wrath of the Druids]]'' — [[The Wages of War]]</ref> she reported back to Flann Sinna and her cousin, King [[Sichfrith]] of [[Dublin]]. Putting together the Abbot's hand in Flann's attempted assassination<ref>''[[Assassin's Creed: Valhalla]] – [[Wrath of the Druids]]'' — [[Flann over Ireland]]</ref> and his betrayal that led to the death of Eivor's cousin and Sichfrith's father, King [[Bárid mac Ímair]],<ref>''[[Assassin's Creed: Valhalla]] – [[Wrath of the Druids]]'' — [[The Mask of Diplomacy]]</ref> Flann prepared the assault on Armagh alongside Sichfrith and Eivor. Breaking through, the High King's forces defeated the soldiers as Flann and Eivor broke into the fortress' chruch and confronted Abbot Eogan. Although the Abbot tried to curse them for the treason against the Church, Flann stated they knew of Eogan's true allegiance. After Eogan put down his façade, he tried to convince Flann of his poetess [[Ciara ingen Medba]]'s allegiance but was dissuaded by Eivor. Nevertheless, Flann and Eivor fought against Eogan and ultimately killed him and his guards.<ref name="AScourgingofSnakes"/>

==Aftermath==
While all of Ireland soon learned of Abbot Eogan's treachery,<ref name="AScourgingofSnakes"/> Flann held a council meeting of kings at [[King's Land]] at [[Durrow]] to discuss the situation with the [[druid]]s. Initially, they all agreed to an inquistion of the druids into conversion or exile. Betrayed, poetess [[Ciara ingen Medba]] went to activate the [[Lia Fáil]] but not before Flann and Eivor came to convince her not to do so. In a series of fight, Eivor managed to best Ciara and saw the Lia Fáil destroyed.
