Often regarded as one of the greatest and most brilliant naval commanders in history, he participated in at least twenty-three battles, achieving victory in all of them despite overwhelming odds. In 1725, Yi Sun-sin was mentioned by the Joseon engineer [[Yun Pyeong-Gyu]] after the latter's [[turtle ship]]s proved successful in breaching Admiral [[Jeong]]'s blockade.
