'''Niwa Nagahide''' (丹羽 長秀, 1535 – 1585) was a [[Japan|Japanese]] [[samurai]] who served one of [[Oda Nobunaga]]'s senior retainers during becoming a [[daimyo]] in his own right.<ref name="Wiki">{{WP|Niwa Nagahide}}</ref> As the head of the {{Wiki|Niwa clan}}, Nagahide controlled [[Wakasa|Wakasa Province]] and spent his time there when he was not needed in battles.<ref name="ACSH">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]]''</ref>

==Biography==
Nagahide was born on 16 October 1535 in {{Wiki|Aichi District}}, {{Wiki|Owari Province}}. In his youth, Nagahide began serving under Nobunaga, fighting alongside and under him from as early as 1552.<ref name="Wiki">{{WP|Niwa Nagahide}}</ref> In 1581, Nagahide was present at a generals meeting with Nobunaga and his new samurai [[Yasuke]] where they discussed the recent [[shinobi]] assassination attempt on the daimyo. Nagahide and the group watched as [[Toyotomi Hideyoshi|Hashiba Hideyoshi]] arrived shortly after, presenting the head of the defeated [[Bessho Nagaharu]] from [[Harima]]. The generals later discussed about the region of [[Iga]] which has remained a thorn in Nobunaga's side over the past few years. Ultimately, the decision was made to [[Tenshō Iga War|invade]] the region and bring it under Nobunaga's control, after [[Oda Nobukatsu]]'s failed invasion two years ago.<ref name="Lords of Azuchi">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]]'' – [[Lords of Azuchi]]</ref>

Nagahide was one of the generals involved in the conquest of Iga<ref name="ACSH">''[[Assassin's Creed: Shadows]]''</ref> and a few months after, led a campaign in {{Wiki|Shikoku}}.<ref name="Wiki" /> In June, upon learning of Nobunaga's betrayal and death at the hands of [[Akechi Mitsuhide]] in [[Honnō-ji]], Nagahide immediately ended his campaign and returned to [[Azuchi Castle]], where he met up with the remainder of Nobunaga's followers. Having bore witness to [[Mori Ranmaru]]'s act of ''{{Wiki|seppuku}}'', Nagahide was reunited with Yasuke, and brought him to see the urn holding Ranmaru's remains. When Yasuke asked about [[Tokugawa Ieyasu]]'s whereabouts, Nagahide directed him to [[Yamashiro]] where he would find the general, while he himself have to return to Wakasa to attend to troubles that have occured there. After Yasuke bid him farewell, Nagahide left the castle to returned to Wakasa.<ref name="Lords of Azuchi" />
