Talk:Zipline
Tense[edit source]
Currently, the article is written in the historical past tense because of our policy to write from an in-universe perspective. However, since ziplines still exist in the present time or can exist, shouldn't the article be written in the present tense still even from an IU perspective? For example firearms, horses, and Hidden Blade.
Also, the Trivia section covers OOU topics, such as gameplay and should therefore be written in the literary present tense. However, I'm not sure of the proper approach because it would need to be clearly explained that each piece of information provided in terms of gameplay is talking about the game from an OOU perspective. Hmm, the introduction for the article is immediately linked to a practice of which we don't know if it's still employed in-universe (using ziplines in conjunction with the Hookblade) though. If you really want to use present tense for the intro, I'd split the first sentence and word it like this or something similar:
"Ziplines are ropes stretched between two structures. They allowed an Assassin to quickly navigate the city or attack an enemy from above."
You could expand the general description of what a zipline is a little, if you want. Also, the second sentence is a little more general that way, instead of referring specifically to the ziplines in Revelations... Am I making sense? I feel like my wording isn't the best :p Crook The Constantine District 14:55, January 12, 2017 (UTC)
- So over on Wikipedia's article on zipline, it appears that the word "zipline" properly refers to the entire assembly including the cable and a built-in pulley. In other words, would this mean the ziplines we find in the games aren't technically ziplines? Just ropes or cables across buildings that the Assassins use as ziplines? - I rewrote the introduction with the proper, technical definition of zipline. :-/ I'm not sure if this is correct because the games never actually say that this is the proper definition, but I was thinking that we also don't expect the games to give us the definitions to "king", or "coffee", or any other object. It's English, and it's logical to assume that the definitions are the same, but let me know if you disagree. I also changed it to present tense since ziplines in the present moment in AC would almost certainly still exist at some part in the world or otherwise can be created at any time.
