Personally,I wouldn't like a game in Japan.It might be my fault but I don't know any historical characters there except for some Ming Dynasty or something.A lot of people say it would be truly stealthier and I'd have to disagree.Its AC made by Ubisoft.They're not gonna make a stealth only game.Not even splinter cell does it anynore.The one thing I can see with it is the weaponry.Swords and crossbows heavily again.Lets be honest,the ninja star isn't gonna happen.They're assassins not ninjas.(Maybe a easter egg or secret weapon with a ninja costume) Then there's also the modern story.How would Japan fit in the modern story.(Well I guess with AC IV that they could get something since your a researcher) Maybe a character could be Shao Jun but thats really it but Ubisoft could probably make a better character(Not saying she is bad).

As to where I would like for it to go, I can't really say.

I know they won't do World Wars.

They shouldn't do anymore Italy stuff.

I can actually see a full modern setting (W/O animus) working (In next gen) after playing AC 3.

There are some good stuff in Europe still.French Rev.  or

In America why not Civil War.(Might have to span 2 games like with italy) It wouldn't be crazy with guns (Although still common)

People say africa but I sure as hell don't know history there except for the current civil war.Maybe Egytian times but they have comics on that.

In school,I've recently studied more Medieval Europe times and can see a another game based around that time.There was some pretty crazy sh*t in there before the crusades(The crusades just seem to be the most known part about it)
