Madame Beaudry (died 1790s) was an apothecary and businesswoman living and working in the northwestern part of Paris' district of Les Invalides during the 18th century.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Madame Beaudry worked as an apothecary and was a rival to Dr. Samuel Maran. However, her business was based on buying tonics from her competitor, diluting her purchases, and re-selling them at cheaper prices. Beaudry was confronted by Maran multiple times for her illicit practices but did not allow his opposition to stop her business.[1]

One morning while working, Beaudry received and read a letter from Maran, who apologized for their unpleasant conversations and offered a new concoction as an act of good faith. In an alley, she tried the concoction and immediately died. A homeless man later found her body and stole her purse, which contained the tonic she had used. When the man drank the tonic, he similarly fell ill and died. Eventually, the French Assassin Arno Dorian investigated the crime and deduced that Maran had intentionally poisoned the madame. After Maran confessed to the murder, Arno took him to jail.[1]
