Gill was a romance poet who lived in Glowecestre, Mercia around 870s CE. He was the brother of Mille, who worked as a beekeeper.[1]

Gill secretly admired one of Mille's colleagues, Serle, and composed many love poems to him in which he referred to him as his "Starlight". He dearly wished to arrange a meeting and finally wrote a letter asking him to meet him one day at dusk by a beech tree north of the bee farm. However, a witch had warned him that he was deathly allergic to bee stings, so he could never risk delivering the letter directly at the farm. He resorted to asking a Viking stranger, Eivor Varinsdottir, to deliver the poetic letter for him although he neglected to name his crush, forcing Eivor to deduce the correct recipient by herself from his poem.[1]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Gill is a minor character in Assassin's Creed: Valhalla (2020). He is the quest-giver for the world event "Dearly Bee-Loved" in which he asks the player to deliver a love letter to a beekeeper for him. The player has to deduce from the letter's content which of the following beekeepers, Serle, Mille, or Warin, is his intended recipient, following which the recipient will walk over to the meeting spot nearby. Here, the player will discover whether they made the correct guess, and the quest will end.

Should the player mistakenly give the letter to Mille, she reveals that she is Gill's sister and berates him for trolling her. Warin, on the other hand, calmly rejects him while revealing that Serle would actually reciprocate. Lastly, correctly giving the letter to Serle leads to a happy ending as the two lovers begin their relationship.
