Beltane

Beltane (Scottish Gaelic: Bealltain) is a yearly Gaelic May Day festival that is traditionally held on 1 May and celebrates the end of spring.

History

In 1 May 1296, the festival of Bealltain commenced in the town of Dalkeith while Norwegian mercenary Sören and his group stayed there while hiding from the Lann Fala. There, they were tasked to accompany and protect a young man Fillan, a Child of Fal, and met with Deorsa, a member of the Scottish Brotherhood of Assassins, who checked in on the mercenaries and Fillan. During the festivities, Fillan spent most of the night with Kyle Macdougall, one of Sören's mercenaries and Fillan's combat instructor. Together, they concluded the night with Kyle bestowing a kiss on Fillan, who was later bound and abducted from her.

While the citizens spent the night, Fillan was put into a dolmen and made to go through the Bealltain rite of passage, to which was a tradition that both the Scottish Brotherhood and Sören practiced. Fillan suffered bouts of panic while envisioning a younger version of his sister Ailéas, whom he asked forgivesness. However, he was told to forgive himself before he ultimately found a way out. Sören had waited and then congratulated him, but Fillan left in anger while the town's festivities ended.
