"Indeed, to exclude or impede corporate speech is to muzzle the principal agents of the modern free economy. We should celebrate rather than condemn the addition of this speech to the public debate."
―Antonin Scalia, 2010.[src]

Antonin Gregory Scalia (1936 – 2016) was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States and a Templar affiliate.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Appointed to the Supreme Court by President Ronald Reagan in 1986, Scalia was its longest-serving justice and had been described as its conservative wing's intellectual anchor. Following the controversial 2000 United States presidential election, the Supreme Court heard the case Bush v. Gore, where it was asked to decide whether to allow a recount of the votes in the state of Florida or order the certification of the election in favor of George W. Bush. Scalia convinced Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, the swing vote on the Supreme Court, to rule in favor of Bush, appealing to her desire to retire under a Republican president.[1]

Upon O'Connor's resignation in 2005, Scalia ensured that President Bush was given the name of John Roberts, another Templar ally, as her replacement. With Roberts on the Court, Scalia and the Court's other conservative members ruled against the Federal Election Commission's limits on corporate campaign financing in Citizens United v. FEC, ensuring that Abstergo Industries could secure the election of their preferred candidates for the United States Congress and the presidency.[1]
