STORY[edit | edit source]

In Renaissance Florence, after the murder of his father and brothers, Ezio Auditore da Firenze thwarted Rodrigo Borgia's circle of Templars and confronted the Pope within the Vatican itself. Returning to his Villa in the Tuscan countryside, Ezio seems safe from Borgia retribution, but soon finds out that his rivals are stronger than ever. Now, Ezio must journey to the heart of the Templar order, Rome, to finish his fight once and for all.

Assassin Signals[edit | edit source]

Shows how many Assassin Signals you have available, and how much time remaining before your Assassins return to Signalling range.

Health[edit | edit source]

The Health Meter indicates how much energy Ezio has left; a white block is filled with energy, a partially filled block will regenerate over time, a black block is empty, and a small block means the armor is broken and needs to be repaired.

Puppeteer[edit | edit source]

The Puppeteer is the HUD element displayed in the upper right corner of the screen that indicates, based on the context, what actions can be performed with each button. Every action described in the Animus Control section uses this concept and can be performed depending on the context.

Money Indicator[edit | edit source]

Indicates the amount of money you currently carry.

Selected Weapon[edit | edit source]

An icon that displays which weapon is currently equipped.

Mini-Map[edit | edit source]

Animus Interface[edit | edit source]

The Animus informs you of various game, mission, and progress details. Animus Feedback State (AFS)

Social Status Indicator (SSI) Mini-Map Frame hud_npcawarenessindicator_investigate A Guard's SSI will indicate the risk he poses to you, whether he is alone or in a group. Yellow Outline, filling with Yellow: The guard is trying to locate you but does not see you. Solid Yellow, filling with Red: The guard has noticed your presence and is investigating you. The Mini-Map's frame is a Risk Indicator that is synchronized with your enemy's state. White: You are anonymous. Green: You are hidden. Red: You are in conflict with Guards and must either escape or fight. Yellow: You are being chased, but have broken the line of sight from your pursuers. You can attempt to hide. GAMEPLAY LOOP[edit | edit source]

Enemy Types[edit | edit source]

npc_guard_militia The standard army unit, capable of wielding many different weapons.

npc_guard_agile Lightly armed guards that can run as fast as you.

npc_guard_seeker Armed with a halberd, they will relentlessly hunt their prey.

Officers within the many armies.

npc_guard_brute Slower, stronger guards that should not be underestimated.

npc_guard_gunman Soldiers equipped with rudimentary rifles.

npc_guard_crossbowman Soldiers specialized with a crossbow.

npc_guard_swissguard Swiss mercenaries hired to protect the Pope and the Vatican.

npc_other_bandits Bandits work under the cover of darkness to rob their victims.

npc_other_romulus Fanatical cult members that dwell within several hidden lairs around Rome.

Detection Loop[edit | edit source]

Detection[edit | edit source]

As long as you are not Notorious, guards will only enter conflict with you if you perform illegal actions (killing, tackling them, looting). If you avoid these actions, you will remain anonymous. hud_ssi_incognito When you are Notorious, the guards know an Assassin is on the prowl and are actively searching for you. If they see you, they will start to investigate immediately. They will attack as soon as they have recognized you. Try to stay Low Profile and blend into the crowd to avoid attracting attention. hud_ssi_notorious Note: Because travel on the rooftops is forbidden in Rome, rooftop guards will always detect you on sight.

Escape[edit | edit source]

To escape from your enemies, break their line of sight and then hide. The immediate area around your Last Known Position (LKP) remains a risky zone because guards will look for nearby hiding spots. The LKP is displayed in the Mini-Map as a yellow circle. To make sure guards do not find you, try to get out of the zone before hiding.

Vanish (Hide and/or Blend)[edit | edit source]

When you are Unseen, you must find a hiding spot (bales of hay, wells, and benches) or blend into groups within the crowd. Once hidden or blended, you'll begin to vanish (flashing blue). item_haychariot item_haystack item_rooftopgarden item_well You can also vanish by outpacing your pursuers with your Free Running skills.

Notoriety Loop[edit | edit source]

Your Notoriety grows as you perform spectacular actions. To lower your Notoriety meter, you can: Remove Posters. item_poster Bribe Heralds to stop talking about you. item_herald Kill Officials. item_official Once your Notoriety meter completely fills, the Assassin icon turns red. Guards will be informed of your presence and detect you on sight. You must then completely empty your Notoriety Meter to remove your Notoriety.

Rome Upgrade System (RUS)[edit | edit source]

As Borgia power weakens in Rome, you will be able to rebuild, renovate and upgrade many assets of the city. You can rebuild Shops, Faction Headquarters, and the Fast Travel System. Rebuilding and renovating buildings within a district will increase the value of that district, bringing prosperity and wealth to its people and increasing your income. Borgia Towers item_borgiatower Borgia Towers are highly secured zones. Defeating the Borgia Captain and burning down their tower within each of these zones will allow you to renovate the surrounding buildings

Assassins Guild Loop[edit | edit source]

npc_other_fedayeen Ezio is not alone. He is recruiting the best Assassins to join the Guild and fight Cesare Borgia's army. The Guild is your Brotherhood. Borgia Captains Killing a Borgia Captain and claiming his tower will enable you to recruit one more Assassin. Recruiting Assassins Keep an eye on citizens that show potential to become great Assassins. If they're in trouble, help them and then ask them to join your ranks. Training Assassins menu_assassins_upgrade Becoming an Assassin requires a tremendous amount of skill. Make sure the members of the Guild are well trained. Assigning Contracts to Assassins menu_assassins_contract Send your Recruits on Contracts throughout Europe to help them gain experience and improve their skills. Using the Assassin Signal Signal your Assassins to help you in a variety of ways. They can assassinate targets for you, help in a fight or group together to shoot arrows at multiple enemies.

MISSIONS TYPES[edit | edit source]

There are many mission types in Rome, some progress through the main storyline, but others follow side activities. Mission Givers Watch for the NPCs that provide missions. Most of them are identified on the map. Races There are 3 types of races: reach the end point before time runs out, reach the end point through multiple gates before time runs out, or race against an opponent. Beat Up Use your fists to beat someone until they surrender. Assassinations Assassinate a specific target. Courier Deliver an object to another person or to a location. Flying Machine Test the Flying Machine's performance for Leonardo. Escort Ensure an NPC reaches his destination alive. Follow Follow an NPC. Tail Tail a NPC without being spotted. Shop Quests Some shops in Rome possess unique items that they will trade in exchange for certain objects. These objects are found by looting Bandits, Messengers, and Treasure Chests. Trade Objects Objects found by looting Bandits, Messengers and Treasure Chests can be sold at any shop. However, some shops offer more for specific objects.

HORSE TYPES[edit | edit source]

Rome has a variety of horses, each with their own weaknesses and strengths. The Rouncey horse_type_rouncey The Rouncey is a common horse, used by most civilians in the Renaissance. The Jennet horse_type_jennet This horse is lighter and faster than the other types, but is weak in combat. The Destrier horse_type_destrier This horse is hardy enough to use against the guards.

FACTIONS[edit | edit source]

icon_factions Factions are small groups found in Rome who will help you blend, lure targets, and fight. Hire Use the Head button [Y] to hire a faction. They will follow you until you release them, use them on guards, or if the faction is dispersed by a massive flow of people in the crowd. Use After targeting a guard or a group of guards, use the Head button [Y] to unleash a faction ability on them. Faction abilities are explained in the Faction section. Faction Headquarters Each Faction has a Headquarters that you will need to rebuild. You can also construct Faction Buildings in different areas of Rome, leading to members of that faction being available for hire in that area. Courtesans The Courtesans are good for blending as well as distracting guards. Thieves The Thieves are good at luring away guards. Mercenaries The Mercenaries excel at fighting guards. Faction Creed Each faction has a specific list of challenges for you to accomplish. Completing these challenges will upgrade that faction's abilities. The list can be found in each HQ.

MEMORY SYNCH[edit | edit source]

Desmond relives the memories of Ezio via the Animus. If you respect the Synch Constraints for each memory, completing them in the same way Ezio did, you will get closer to perfect synchronization. Constraints can be killing a maximum or minimum amount of guards, completing a memory within a specific time limit, remaining on the rooftop, staying incognito, etc…

SUBJECT 16 PUZZLES[edit | edit source]

Shaun has identified locations within the Animus indicated by Subject 16. Try searching for them in Eagle Vision to discover their secrets.

WEAPON TYPES[edit | edit source]

Unarmed[edit | edit source]

weapon_icon_fist Fighting unarmed is less powerful, but allows you to disarm an opponent.

Medium and Heavy Weapons[edit | edit source]

weapon_icon_sword Medium weapons are well-rounded weapons, offering a good mix of speed and damage. Heavy weapons inflict large amounts of damage but are slow to attack with. Only 1 can be carried at once, not both at the same time.

Hidden Blades[edit | edit source]

weapon_icon_hiddenblade Hidden Blades allow you to strike first and strike fast. You can't deflect with the hidden blades, but counter-kills are more effective. Use the Weapon Hand button [X] while equipped with the Hidden Blades to assassinate an enemy. This action can only be performed within a short period of time, before they spot you. Assassinations can be performed from various situations: from ground, horse, air, and parachute.

Short Weapons[edit | edit source]

weapon_icon_dagger Short Weapons inflict less damage, but give you a speed advantage.

Long Weapons[edit | edit source]

Long Weapons are slower, but inflict greater damage.

Crossbow[edit | edit source]

weapon_icon_crossbow The Crossbow is silent enough to kill an enemy without detection. However, nearby guards will investigate the bodies of their allies. Use the crossbow carefully: if a guard spots you while you are shooting, they will attack.

Pistol[edit | edit source]

weapon_icon_pistol The pistol is powerful, but not stealthy.

Throwing Knives[edit | edit source]

weapon_icon_throwingknife Throwing Knives are fast, but less precise.

Poison Darts[edit | edit source]

weapon_icon_poisonbolt Poison Darts create a commotion. A poisoned guard will draw the crowd's attention away from you.

Smoke Bombs[edit | edit source]

weapon_icon_smokebombs Smoke Bombs can be used for quick escapes or anonymous kills.

Apple of Eden[edit | edit source]

controls_appleeden Press and hold the Weapon Hand button [X] to use the Apple of Eden. While holding down the Weapon Hand button [X], different waves of effects will be unleashed on enemies. The first effect causes enemies to fight each other, while the second makes them lose their minds and fall to the ground in agony. While you are using the Apple of Eden, you lose health. Your health recharges after you stop using it.

GAME MECHANICS Core elements Compass The compass helps you close in on the "search area," the area around your target. It shows both the direction towards and proximity to the search area: The angle of the compass shows the direction of the search area. The wider the angle, the closer you are to the search area. When your target is in line of sight from your character, the compass is highlighted. Target & pursuer, Chase & Escape The object of the game is to find and kill a TARGET while avoiding a PURSUER who is tracking you. You need to use your COMPASS to close in on your target. The COMPASS indicates the target’s position and distance but also indicates the LINE OF SIGHT. If you engage in too many “noisy” actions while in the LINE OF SIGHT of your target, it will make your target aware of your presence and trigger a Chase between you. MAIN ACTIONS KILL To kill a target, you must "highlight" it and move into range. The [X] button will appear above your target's head. Press the [X] button to kill. If you hold [LT], you will switch into PRECISE AIMING mode. In this mode, a reticle appears, allowing you to precisely aim and highlight someone, regardless of the distance. Release the button to lock the highlighted character. Stun It is possible to turn the tables on your pursuer. When close, the [B] button will appear above his head. Press the [B] button to stun him. If you succeed, your pursuer will lose his contract and you will be safe. But be careful; you can only stun by surprise. If your pursuer tries to kill you at the same time, he will always have the priority. Secondary elements Blend & Hiding Place The maps are filled with hiding places. Hiding allows you to easily escape your pursuer. The different HIDING PLACES include: Hay bales, benches, orators, static groups, and moving groups of civilians. If you hide and join a moving group, your character will walk automatically and allow you to focus your attention on the rest of the game. Scoring System The game is not about killing the most players; the way you kill them is also important. The number of points rewarded for a kill is the combination of two things: the KILL VALUE & the "STYLE" BONUS. Every kill in the game is worth a baseline of 100 points. The difference comes from the bonuses. Firenze_Image Firenze San_Donato_Image San Donato Forli_Image Forli Roma_Image Roma Venice_Image Venice Castel_Gandolfo_Image Castel Gandolfo Siena_Image Siena Monteriggioni_Image Monteriggioni ONLINE ELEMENTS Leaderboards The game ranks you on several elements, such as total amount of XP earned or your kill/death ratio. To consult these rankings, go to the PROGRESSION section of the Main Menu and choose RANKED LEADERBOARDS or PLAYER LEADERBOARDS. In addition to this system, another system is present: THE TEMPLAR GRADE. The templar score is a score that illustrates your performance within the community on a specific period of time. TEMPLAR GRADE How does it work? Each week, the system will keep track of your top 5 best scores. The sum of your scores determine a Weekly Score. At the end of the week, this top 5 is used to calculate the Templar Score. This Templar Score is a floating value based on the 4 last weeks, and it will be used to determine the TEMPLAR GRADE. The Grade is determined by your current templar score, within the community, from grade 1 to grade 10. Each slice of the pyramid represents a GRADE, each slice has a dept, a part of the community. Your position in the community gives your RANK. Grade_Image Where can I check my info about my GRADE? It is possible within the game interfaces to check: My current GRADE My current position (overall and in the current slice) My current TOP 5 (or average on the last 4 WEEKS)
Labels parameters By playing and completing the challenges related to abilities, you can unlock evolutions for these abilities. Evolutions are modified or alternative versions of the abilities. STORY[edit | edit source]

For thirty years, Ezio has asked questions. For thirty years, he has had few answers.

Now in the Autumn of his life, Ezio Auditore – Master Assassin and Mentor – travels to Masyaf in search of wisdom.

But it may be too late....
Ezio arrives at Masyaf to find it overrun by an army of Byzantines, Templars who know the true value of the secrets hidden there. They are searching for information that will reveal the location of the Grand Temple, and thereby grant them unspeakable power. Once again Ezio finds himself diverted by events outside his control. His simple quest for wisdom has become a deadly race to find the library’s keys – a race that will take him to Constantinople, and into the center of an Ottoman civil war.

HUD ELEMENTS[edit | edit source]

Templar Awareness Meter The Templar symbol turns red when the Templars are fully AWARE of Assassin activities in the city, and remains white when they are not. The Templar Awareness system is explained in the Templar Awareness section. Assassin Signals Shows how many Assassin Signals you have available, and how much time remaining before your Assassins return to signaling range. Health The Health Meter indicates how much energy Ezio has left; a white block is filled with energy, a partially filled block will regenerate over time, a black block is empty, and a small block means the armor is broken and needs to be repaired. Puppeteer The Puppeteer is the HUD element displayed in the upper right corner of the screen that indicates, based on the context, what actions can be performed with each button. Money Indicator Indicates the amount of money you currently carry. Selected Weapon An icon that displays which primary and secondary weapons are currently equipped. Mini-Map The Mini-Map indicates points of interest in your immediate surroundings and also serves as a compass. Animus Interface The Animus informs you of various game, mission, and progress details. Blue: You are vanishing. Health Meter When fighting, the Enemy Health Meter is displayed to help you adjust your strategy. While under your command, Faction Members will display a Health Meter as well.

EAGLE SENSE[edit | edit source]

Eagle Sense is a useful tool to gather information about the environment, locate people, and find hidden objects. People in blue are interactive. Objects in white are interactive objects, collectibles, and hiding spots. Objects or people highlighted in yellow indicate an objective. Templar Captains are also highlighted in yellow. People in red are enemies.

IDENTIFY[edit | edit source]

Over the years, Ezio has developed the ability to intuit a person's intentions via a mysterious form of sixth sense called EAGLE SENSE. He can use this skill to IDENTIFY specific persons in a crowd, or to catch brief glimpses of past events.

To identify specific targets in a crowd, activate Eagle Sense and aim the crosshairs at a potential target highlighted in gold.

Ezio will analyze the target, and after a few seconds – if this is the person Ezio is looking for – the target's highlight will intensify, while the highlights of those around the target will return to normal.

GAMEPLAY LOOP[edit | edit source]

Enemy Types[edit | edit source]

The standard Byzantine army unit, capable of wielding many different weapons.

The Ottoman Empire's lightly armed guards. They can run faster than you.

Byzantine soldiers armed with a halberd, they will relentlessly hunt their prey.

Standard Ottoman army unit, equipped with imposing armor.

The Byzantine army's slower, stronger guards. They should not be underestimated.

Soldiers equipped with rudimentary rifles.

The Ottoman Empire's most elite combatants, they will continue battle even when mortally wounded.

Experts at handling explosives, they attack by throwing powerful shrapnel bombs.

Detection Loop[edit | edit source]

Detection Ottoman guards will only enter conflict with you if you perform illegal actions (killing, tackling them, looting). If you avoid these actions, you will remain anonymous.

Templar guards can recognize an Assassin and will always detect you on sight. Templar guards know that Assassins are on the prowl and are actively searching for them.

If they see you, they will start to investigate immediately. They will attack as soon as they have recognized you. Try to stay in Low Profile and blend into the crowd to avoid attracting attention. Note: Because travel on the rooftops is forbidden in Constantinople, rooftop guards will always detect you on sight. Escape To escape from your enemies, break their line of sight and then hide. The immediate area around your Last Known Position (LKP) remains a risky zone because guards will look for nearby hiding spots. The LKP is displayed in the Mini-Map as a yellow circle. To make sure guards do not find you, try to get out of the zone before hiding. Vanish (Hide and/or Blend) When you are Unseen, you must find a hiding spot (bales of hay, wells, and benches) or blend into groups within the crowd. Once hidden or blended, you will begin to vanish (flashing blue). You can also vanish by outpacing your pursuers with your Free Running skills. Templar Awareness Loop The Templar Awareness Meter increases as you perform spectacular or reprehensible actions. To lower your Templar Awareness Meter, you can: Bribe Heralds to stop talking about the Assassin. Kill Templar Officials. Once your Templar Awareness meter is filled completely, the Templar icon turns red. This means the Templars are fully "AWARE" of Assassin activities in the city.

Any spectacular or reprehensible action you perform after the Templars are AWARE may result in an attack on one of your Assassin Dens. You must then completely empty your Templar Awareness Meter to return your status to "SECRET". Constantinople Upgrade System As Templar power weakens in Constantinople, you will be able to rebuild, renovate, and upgrade many assets of the city. You can rebuild different type of shops: Blacksmith, Tailor, Doctor, Bookstores, and Banks. Rebuilding and renovating buildings within a district will increase the value of that district, bringing prosperity and wealth to its people and increasing your income. Templar Den Templar Dens are highly secured zones. Defeating the Templar Captain and taking over the Den within each of these zones will allow you to renovate the surrounding buildings. Assassins Guild Loop Ezio is not alone. He can recruit the best men and women to join the Assassins Guild and fight against the Templars. The Guild is your Brotherhood. Templar Captains Killing a Templar Captain and claiming his Den will enable you to recruit two more Assassins. Recruiting Assassins Keep an eye on citizens that show potential to become great Assassins. If they are in trouble, help them before asking them to join your ranks. Class Each Assassin recruited into your Guild can have one of four classes, each with a distinct fighting style: Soldier: A well-rounded fighter. Uses medium weapons and his hidden gun. Enforcer: An intimidating warrior, fighting with heavy weapons. Throws thunder bombs to hurt and disorient his enemies. Scout: Fast and nimble, the scout fights with a short blade. He also uses smoke bombs to swiftly kill his enemy unseen. Marksman: Using his hidden blade and a crossbow, the marksman is deadly at range. Training Assassins Becoming an Assassin requires a tremendous amount of skill. Make sure the members of your Guild are well trained.

As your Assassins gain levels, they receive skill points that can be assigned either to armor or weapons.

Assigning skill points to armor will improve an Assassin's armor, increasing his health.

Assigning skill points to weapons will unlock new combat moves, making your Assassin deadlier in fights. Assigning Mission to Assassins Send your Assassin Recruits to perform missions in cities throughout the Mediterranean region to help them gain experience and improve their skills.

Refer to the Mediterranean Missions for additional information. Using the Assassin Signal Signal your Assassins to help you in a variety of ways. They can assassinate targets for you, help in a fight, or group together to shoot arrows at multiple enemies.

MISSION TYPES[edit | edit source]

There are many mission types in Constantinople; some progress through the main storyline, but others follow side activities. Mission Givers Watch out for other characters who can provide you with missions. Most of them are identified on the map. Beat Up Use your fists to beat someone until they surrender. Assassinations Assassinate a specific target. Courier Deliver an object to another person or to a location. Escort Ensure that another person reaches his destination alive. Follow Follow another person. Tail Tail another person without being spotted. Master Assassin Mission When one of your Assassins has reached level 10, the first in a series of Master Assassin missions will be available to you in one of your Assassin Dens.

To start a Master Assassin mission, go to one of your available Dens. You will now have the opportunity to choose which Level 10 Assassin you want to start on the path to becoming a Master Assassin. Once you have chosen a qualifying Assassin, a Master Assassin mission will be available in that Den.

At the end of this mission, your Assassin will reach Level 11, and will now be able to advance further.

When your Assassin has reached Level 14 and maxed-out his or her XP, another Master Assassin mission will be available somewhere in the city.

Upon completing this second mission, your Assassin will reach level 15 and achieve the rank of Master Assassin.

Additionally, the Den where your Master Assassin is assigned will now be invincible to Templar attacks. Piri Reis Mission Piri Reis missions are available at his shop. There are different missions for each type of bomb: "Lethal", "Tactical", and "Diversion", as well as missions for using specific types of shells.

Each mission will require you to perform specific objectives using an assigned type of bomb. Successfully completing each mission will add more bomb ingredients to Piri Reis's shop. After encountering Piri Reis, survey missions will also be unlocked in the Mediterranean Defense. Completing those missions will also unlock additional bomb ingredients in his shop.

FACTIONS[edit | edit source]

Factions are small groups found in Constantinople who will help you blend, lure targets, and fight. Hire Use [B] to hire a faction. They will follow you until you release them, use them on guards, or until the faction is dispersed by a massive flow of people in the crowd. Use After targeting a guard or a group of guards, use [B] to unleash a faction ability on them. Faction abilities are explained in the Faction section. Faction Headquarters Each Faction has a headquarters in Constantinople. You can also construct Faction Buildings in different areas, leading to members of that faction being available for hire in that area. Romanies The Romanies are good for blending as well as distracting guards.

If you respect the Synch Constraints for each memory – completing them in the same way Ezio did – you will get closer to perfect synchronization. Constraints might require you to kill a maximum or minimum amount of guards, complete a memory within a specific time limit, stay incognito, etc.

DEN DEFENSE[edit | edit source]

By performing spectacular or reprehensible actions while the Templar Awareness meter is full, there is a chance that Templars will attack one of the Assassin Dens. While an Assassin Den is under attack, the area around it becomes contested: the Den will stop providing daily income, Templar guards will patrol the area, faction groups will be unavailable, shops will charge taxes, and it will be impossible to buy new shops or landmarks. To return control of an area back to the Assassins, you will have to go to the Den and interact with the door to begin a Den Defense mission.

Den Defense Preparation[edit | edit source]

Before the Den Defense starts, a screen will show you which Templar units are attacking the Den.

By pressing [Y], you access the Unit Selection screen, where you can select the units you want to use for the Den Defense.

Den Defense HUD[edit | edit source]

Morale Indicator: Shows the Morale available. Den Health: Shows the health of the Den. Next Enemies: Shows the icon of the incoming enemy group. They will appear in the street when the icon reaches the end of the line. Cursor: The cursor lets you select where to place units, barricades, and where to fire the cannon. Control: Shows the contextual control for the Den Defense. Gameplay The goal of a Den Defense is to prevent the Templars from assaulting your Den by strategically placing Assassins on the rooftops and barricades in the street. Units and barricades cost Morale. Morale is gained for each enemy killed, and by looting certain enemies.

Leaders also generate a small amount of Morale at regular intervals.

Unit Type[edit | edit source]

Although there are several units available, only those selected during the preparation phase can be placed during a Den Defense. Note that some units are unlocked as more Den Defenses are completed.

Assassin Leader: Leaders can only be placed on rooftops. Leaders don't fight, but do generate Morale. Once a leader is in position, the rooftop becomes ready to receive attacking Assassins.

Assassin Crossbowman: They have a fast rate of fire, but low damage.

Assassin Riflemen: They have a slow rate of fire, but high damage.

Assassin Caltrop Bomber: Upon impact, the bomb releases caltrops on the ground. Any enemy units walking into them will have their speed significantly reduced.

Assassin Splinter Bomber: Upon impact, the explosion deals a medium amount of damage to all enemies in its radius.

Air Assassins: These perform air assassinations that instantly kill up to two enemies at once. They can only be placed on rooftops and cannot damage Siege Engines.

Assassin Bruiser: Very strong in melee combat, they can defeat several enemies single-handedly. However, they don't have any range weapons and can only be placed behind barricades. Barricade: With the exception of a few specific Templar enemies, a barricade will stop the Templar army until they destroy it. Assassins can also be placed behind a barricade to reinforce it. Barricades can be upgraded up to 2 times, making them strong and adding additional reinforcement points for the Assassin.

Multi-Barrel Gun Barricade: This barricade comes with a machine gun mounted on it. It has a good rate of fire and does a lot of damage to unarmored enemies.

Greek Fire Barricade: This barricade comes with a small Greek Fire cannon mounted on it. Acting like a flamethrower, it deals a lot of damage to the enemies, but its range is rather small and it takes time before firing.

Cannon Barricade: A small cannon is mounted on its barricade. It is very efficient at range, dealing damage to all enemies around the cannonball's point of impact, but cannot fire on enemies when they are too close. Special Weapons Besides normal units, a special weapon is also available: the Cannon Shot.

Although extremely powerful, it takes time to recharge. The three boxes beneath "Morale" on the HUD represent the availability of the Cannon Shot. Each box represents one shot.

Pressing [LB] once will launch a single Cannon Shot at the cursor's position.

Holding [LB] will launch a volley of three cannon shots, covering a larger area. Other Actions Besides placing units and barricades, other actions are available:

Shoot and Target: Move the cursor over an enemy and press [X] to shoot him with Ezio's Hidden Gun. Besides killing the Templar, this Templar group will be flagged as a priority target. All Assassins within range will focus their attacks here.

Loot: Some enemies will drop loot after their death. By moving the cursor over their bodies and pressing [B], you can pick up the loot to gain money, bomb ingredients, and extra Morale.

Recall/Sell: Pressing [Y] with the cursor over an Assassin or a barricade will remove it from the battlefield and return a small amount of Morale.

Upgrade: Pressing [A] with the cursor over a barricade will upgrade it to the next level. Victory Victory is achieved when the final Templar is killed. The Den and its surrounding area will be secure, fully returning to Assassin control.

A victory screen will also appear, showing various stats about the Den Defense and a synchronization percentage based on your performance.

Rewards such as money, bomb ingredients, and XP for the Assassins in your Guild are awarded based on your synchronization rating. Defeat If the Den Health reaches 0, the Den Defense will result in a defeat.

The Den and its surrounding area will revert back to Templar control. The Den will have to be taken over just like the first time. BOMB CRAFTING Ezio has access to a variety of bombs, each with a different purpose and effect.

Bombs can be crafted by interacting with crafting tables at the Assassin HQ, at an Assassin Den, and at various stations throughout the city. You can carry three different types of bombs:

- Lethal Bombs: Designed to kill enemies.
- Tactical Bombs: Designed to give an advantage in a fight or when escaping enemies.
- Diversion Bombs: Designed to distract or misdirect NPCs. Each bomb requires three specific ingredients: A shell to determine how the bomb will detonate, gunpowder to affect the bomb's radius, and an effect. Shell There are four types of shells:

- Fuse Shell: This shell rebounds off surfaces and detonates after 3 seconds.
- Trip Wire Shell: This shell detonates when enemies walk near it.
- Impact Shell: This shell explodes on impact.
- Sticky Pouch: This light shell sticks a coating to surfaces and NPCs, and detonates after 5 seconds. Gunpowder Three types of gunpowder ingredients are available:

- Indian Gunpowder: Bombs using this gunpowder have a radius of 2 meters.
- Arabic Gunpowder: Bombs using this gunpowder have a radius of 3 meters.
- British Gunpowder: Bombs using this gunpowder have a radius of 4 meters. Effect Ten types of effect ingredients are available:

- Sulfur: Creates a bomb that acts as a sound decoy.
- Coal Dust: Creates a lethal bomb that damages and stuns for a few seconds.
- Shrapnel: Creates a bomb that kills by dispersing shrapnel upon exploding.
- Datura Powder: Creates a bomb designed to slowly poison anyone who breathes its fumes.
- Salt of Petra: Creates a bomb that produces light smoke used as a smoke decoy.
- Phosphorous: Creates a bomb which releases a dense smoke screen that blinds anyone standing in it.
- Caltrops: Creates a bomb which impairs movement, making anyone affected by it vulnerable.
- Skunk Oil: Creates a bomb used to incapacitate and repulse.
- Lamb's Blood: Creates a bomb used to scare, making anyone affected by it vulnerable.
- Pyrite Coins: Creates a bomb that attracts crowds. Finding Ingredients Ingredients can be acquired in various ways: Bought from some shops, looted from the bodies of enemies, in special crates at Assassin Dens and throughout the city, by completing Den Defense missions, and by sending Assassins on missions throughout the Mediterranean. MEDITERRANEAN DEFENSE Assassins can be sent on missions to cities throughout the Mediterranean region to free them from Templar control. Mediterranean Map The Mediterranean map can be accessed from the Assassins' HQ, any Assassin Den, or from pigeon coops found near crafting tables in Constantinople. Each city displayed on the map may have one of three statuses:

-Cities with a Templar icon are under the Templars' control.

-Cities with an Assassin icon are under the Assassins' control.

-Cities with a red Assassin icon are Assassin cities under Templar attack. Reclaiming a City Each city under the Templars' control has a percentage representing the grasp the Templars have over the city. The higher the percentage, the more difficult the mission to free the city will be.

However, Assassins can be sent to perform various missions to weaken Templar control over the city. Each mission has a difficulty rating, a duration, and a list of rewards associated with it.

Once a mission has been selected, you will have to decide which Assassins from your Guild you want to send.

Each Assassin assigned to that mission will raise the success percentage for that mission. Difficult missions will require more or higher-level Assassins to reach or get close to a 100% chance of success. Some missions may also require a special class of Assassin. In that case, the first Assassin assigned to that mission needs to be of that class. To free a city from the Templars' control, simply select the mission RECLAIM THE CITY and assign Assassins as you would with any other mission, the only difference being that its difficulty is based on the current Templar control. Controlling a City When a city is successfully reclaimed from the Templars, the first order of business is to select an Assassin as leader of the Order in that city.

The city leader will determine the level of control the Assassins have over the city. The higher the level, the harder it will be for the Templars to retake the city.

The Assassin selected as the leader will leave your Guild and be transferred to the city. However, it will always be possible to swap a city leader with another Assassin from your Guild later on. Other Assassins can also be transferred from your Guild to an Assassin city as its leader's lieutenant. Lieutenants will increase the Assassins' control percentage for that city.

The number of lieutenants from any given city depends of the number of slots available. Additional slots can be unlocked by performing specific missions in that city. New missions are available at a city under Assassin Control.

City development missions can only be performed a limited number of times. Those missions provide permanent improvements to the city: more slots for lieutenants, increase the amount of gold, experience points, or bomb ingredients generated by the city, etc...

Influence missions will increase the Assassins' control percentage for the city, up to the maximum determined by the city leader and his lieutenants. Each city under the Assassins' control will provide several rewards every game day: Money and bomb ingredients for Ezio, experience points for the city leader and his lieutenant. Every game day, Templars will make an attempt to weaken the Assassin presence in the city, reducing the control value.

If the control value ever falls to 0, the Templars will launch an attack on the city, changing the city status to "Contested".

When a city is contested, it stops providing rewards every game day and every mission in that city becomes unavailable, except one: DEFEND THE CITY.

Successfully defending the city will return the city to the Assassins and restore a certain amount of the Assassins' control.

Failure, however, will see the city falling back into Templar control, while the city leader and his lieutenant will be prisoners, unavailable until the city has been reclaimed once more. Completing Missions Once the duration of the mission has elapsed, accessing the Mediterranean region menu will show a results screen.

If the mission was successful, the rewards for that mission will be received and the Assassins assigned to that mission will be available in your Guild once more.

If the mission was a failure, Assassins below level 11 may end up dead, being permanently removed from your Guild, while Assassins from level 11 and up may be wounded and unavailable for several minutes. DESMOND'S JOURNEY Following the events of Assassin's Creed® Brotherhood, Desmond is now trapped inside the Animus. With the help of Subject 16, Desmond has accessed the black room, a special program within the animus, and the key to finding his way out. Controls [LS] Move your Character

[LB] / [RB] Choose Block Gameplay Each part of Desmond's journey requires reaching the exit of the level. To reach it, Desmond can create objects within the Animus: straight blocks and ramp blocks. WEAPON TYPES Unarmed Fighting unarmed is less powerful, but allows you to disarm an opponent. Hidden Blades Hidden Blades allow you to strike first and strike fast. It's harder to deflect attacks but counter kills are more effective. Use the Primary Weapon button [X] while equipped with the Hidden Blades to assassinate an enemy. This action can only be performed within a short period of time, before they spot you. Assassinations can be performed from various situations: from the ground, air, zipline, and parachute. Medium and Heavy Weapons Medium weapons are well-rounded weapons, offering a good mix of speed and damage. Heavy weapons inflict large amounts of damage but are slow to attack with. Only 1 can be carried at once, not both at the same time. Short Weapons Short Weapons inflict less damage, but give you a speed advantage. Crossbow The Crossbow is silent enough to kill an enemy without detection. However, nearby guards will investigate the bodies of their allies. Use the crossbow carefully: if a guard spots you while you are shooting, they will attack. Pistol The Pistol is powerful, but not stealthy. Throwing Knives Throwing Knives are fast, but do less damage. Poison Darts Poison Darts create a commotion. A poisoned guard will draw the crowd's attention away from you. Bombs Bombs can be used to distract, incapacitate, or kill enemies. Long Weapons Long Weapons are slower, but inflict greater damage. They can't be bought, but can be stolen by disarming enemies. MISCELLANEOUS REPLAY A MEMORY From the DNA menu, any previously completed memory can be replayed, whether to attempt full synchronization or just for fun. CHEATS While replaying a memory, you can activate cheats previously unlocked by completing sequences at 100% synchronization. UPLAY If you see a Uplay notification while playing, it means you have performed a Uplay-specific action and have earned exchangeable Uplay Units. You need to log into Uplay to redeem your Units. Animus 3.0[edit | edit source]

1 INTRODUCTION[edit | edit source]

1.1 The Cast[edit | edit source]

The descendant of the Assassins Aquilus, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, Ezio Auditore, and Ratonhnhaké:ton, Desmond Miles (born in 1987) was a member of the Assassin Brotherhood who left the organization when he was a teenager. In September 2012, he was captured by Abstergo Industries and forced to relive the memories of his ancestors through a machine called the Animus. Desmond later escaped and began to work with a small group of Assassins, returning to the Animus in order to help them circumvent the Templars’ plans.

Shaun Hastings is a member of the modern-day Assassin Brotherhood. Working as an analyst and researcher, he is responsible for compiling and maintaining the knowledge archives of the Animus. Additionally, he provides tactical support and intelligence to Assassin cells around the world. While the nature of Shaun's work is mostly cerebral and he spends much of his time behind a desk rather than in the field, his contribution is instrumental in the ongoing race between Assassins and Templars to secure the remaining Pieces of Eden.

Unlike most Assassins, Rebecca Crane was not born into the Brotherhood. Instead, she was actively recruited for her technical skills, which were supplemented by rigorous combat training upon her induction into the ranks of the Assassins. Within her team, Rebecca holds a support role alongside Shaun Hastings. Despite the dire circumstances that she and her team find themselves in, Rebecca remains a very optimistic and outgoing person. Friendly with her teammates and quick to joke, she sometimes seems immature despite how seriously she takes their mission and her work.

William Miles (born 1948) is the driven, intelligent, but emotionally distant father of Desmond Miles. Born within the Assassin community, he has devoted his entire life to the ideals of the Brotherhood. He raised his son in a remote Assassin community called The Farm, located in the Black Hills of South Dakota, outside Rapid City. William is a technically-minded man, fully devoted to the Assassins and their cause, whose passion for politics outweighs his responsibility to his family. While William’s wife has always been able to deal with this emotional distance, young Desmond could not. Eventually he grew to feel that his father was more of a drill sergeant than a parent and fled the compound, despite his parents’ repeated warnings to never leave.

Dr. Warren Vidic is the head of genetic research at Abstergo Industries, where he leads the Animus Project. One of the world’s leading authorities on genetic memory, Vidic has dedicated most of his life to the subject. It is in great part because of his theories that the Animus device was created, with Vidic leading the initiative from the onset.

Daniel Cross (born 1974) was a late 20th century descendent of the Russian Assassin Nikolai Orelov. Plagued by hallucinations of his ancestor’s memories, he became a criminal, as well as a drug addict and alcoholic. Daniel was instrumental in the assassination of the leading member of the modern-day Assassins known as "The Mentor", and the near-destruction of the Brotherhood in 2000. Abstergo Industries kidnapped Daniel at an early age. Under the designation Subject 4, his genetic memory was explored and his mind experimented upon by Warren Vidic. The latter implanted Daniel with a false identity and, most importantly, a single impulse: to locate the Mentor, and kill him.

2.1 Animus Controls[edit | edit source]

Hello Desmond. The Animus allows you to control your ancestor Connor through a combination of standard and contextual buttons. Standard buttons always perform the same action. For example, holding [RB] always activates the Weapon Wheel. On the other hand, Contextual buttons change depending on the context that Connor is currently in. For example, pressing [B] can make Connor open doors, examine a clue, or take the wheel of a boat, depending on the context.

2.2 General Actions[edit | edit source]

Move using [LS]. Up or down moves your ancestor forward or backward. Left or right makes Connor turn to the left or to the right. Press and hold [A] to walk quickly; you will also gently push people out of your way while holding [A].

Use [RS] to look around the environment. Pressing [RSpress] re-centers the camera.

It is possible to change the intensity of Connor's actions. By default, your ancestor will be in Low Profile, but his state can be changed to High Profile by pressing and holding [RT]. This is like stepping on the gas! In Low Profile, Connor’s actions are inconspicuous and more socially acceptable. Fast and powerful assassin moves such as freerunning or tackling are available in High Profile.

We’ve upgraded the targeting and locking system to make things a little easier for you in the Animus. As you move around in the environment, you’ll notice that only some characters are highlighted; these characters are your ranged targets. By default, only enemy and military targets are highlighted. When you hold [LT], Precision Mode is activated, which allows you to target any character at will. Simply move the crosshairs over the character you want to target and they will become highlighted. If you press [LT] while you have a character highlighted, you will lock on to that character and the camera will follow them.

Pressing [X] will use your currently equipped melee weapon. Note that you can only target military and enemy targets by default; you have to use Precision Mode (see "Target and Lock On" for details) to select civilian targets. Your melee target has a stronger visual highlight than the ranged target.
You can prepare an attack by holding [X] as you run toward an enemy. When you are in range, the attack will automatically be triggered. You can use this technique to do fluid, continuous attacks without stopping.
If you select the hidden blades as your melee weapon, you will be able to assassinate 2 targets at the same time if they are in range. Additionally, the hidden blades have a stealth kill available: if you are in Low Profile attacking a target will make Connor perform a stealth kill which allows you to escape the scene before anyone notices what happened. If you are in High Profile (holding [RT]) your kill will be overt and witnessed.

Pressing [Y] will use your currently selected tool. Some tools, such as trip mines, require you to hold [Y] to deploy them. Weapons such as muskets or pistols will fire every time you press [Y] as long as there is a bullet loaded in the weapon, otherwise it will reload the weapon. If you want to reload a double barreled pistol after only one shot, you can press [RB] to reload.
Some weapons, such as muskets, have two functions. If you press [X] you will use the musket as a melee weapon; if you press [Y] you will shoot the musket. If a weapon has two functions it will override both your melee and tool icons in the HUD.

All of the contextual interactions are on the [B] button. Interactive objects have a highlight, and when you approach them you’ll see the interaction either in the world or in the HUD. Press [B] to activate the interaction. Contextual actions include starting missions, opening doors, picking up weapons, picking pockets, and so on. If the action requires time to complete (such as looting a body or picking a pocket) you will see a radial display on screen that indicates how long it will take to complete the action. Keep holding [B] until it fills completely.

2.3 Actions[edit | edit source]

Low Profile

Pressing [A] makes Connor walk faster and gently push people out of his way.

Pressing [B] in front of an interactive object makes Connor interact with it. You can also pick pockets by holding [B] while in low profile.

Pressing [X] with a nearby enemy highlighted uses your currently selected melee weapon.

Pressing [Y] uses your currently selected tool. Note that ranged weapons require a highlighted target to use them.

Safe Freerunning

If Connor is near an enemy that is fighting, he will automatically adopt a fighting stance and strafe around the enemy. You can move out of the fight stance by holding [RT].

Low Profile Use [LS] to steer the horse. The farther you move [LS], the faster the horse will move in that direction.

Press [B] to dismount or interact with something nearby.

Press [A] to make the horse rear up.

Press [X] to assassinate a highlighted target in range.

Press [Y] to use a selected ranged weapon. Gallop by holding [RT]. While galloping, press [A] to spur your horse and gain a speed boost. If you overuse [A] the horse will tire and slow down.

Hold [B] to prepare to jump off the horse. When you release it, you’ll jump in the direction you’re pointing[LS].

If you pass under a low beam or branch while holding [B] you’ll automatically jump up to grab it. Release [RT] if you want to cancel your jump.

Press [B] while in Low Profile to dive under the water. Being underwater breaks the line of sight, but Connor can only do so for a limited time.

Press and hold [RT] to swim faster. You cannot dive under water while holding [RT].

During a cinematic, press and hold [B] to skip the cinematic.

3 HUD[edit | edit source]

3.1 HUD Elements[edit | edit source]

The HUD provides important information while in the Animus. Various elements of the display will allow you to remain aware of your current status. 0x48d3a1647

The Life bar indicates how much health you currently have. Get out of combat to rest up and regenerate your health.

Indicates your Notoriety Status and what level of Notoriety you have. See the Gameplay Loop section on Detection for more details.

Indicates your currently equipped weapon.

Indicates your currently selected tool. If it’s bright, it means you can use your tool (a valid target is selected, or the tool can be deployed in this area.)

If both the weapon and tool are the same icon, it means the item you have selected can be used as either a melee weapon [X] or a ranged weapon [Y].

If a ranged weapon is selected, the bars on the icon indicate how many shots you have available.

Displays the available contextual actions.

The Mini-Map displays the location of various important memory objectives. A good way to reveal the Mini-Map is to climb to the top of buildings and scan the view. The higher you go, the more you reveal of the map. Your next main line story mission is always indicated with a (!). Secondary missions are indicated using various diamond-shaped icons; these are optional side content that you can engage in.

3.2 Social Status Indicator (SSI)[edit | edit source]

3.2.1 NPC Arrows and Mini-Map's frame[edit | edit source]

Groups and Single NPCs are easily recognizable in the crowd with their SSI. Guards SSI tell you if they are alerted to your presence or not.

1. Yellow: They're suspicious of you.
2. Red: They're chasing you.
3. White: They have lost sight of you.

3.3 Animus Feedback System (AFS)[edit | edit source]

The AFS gives you relevant and necessary information for playing the game.

3.3.1 Memories AFS[edit | edit source]

Memory Objectives and warnings are displayed at the top left of the screen.

3.3.2 Informative AFS[edit | edit source]

Information about systems is displayed in the top right of the screen.

3.3.3 Critical AFS[edit | edit source]

If there is information you must act on quickly, such as low health warnings, it is displayed in the center of the screen.

4 GAMEPLAY LOOP[edit | edit source]

4.1 Detection Loop[edit | edit source]

4.1.1 Detection[edit | edit source]

When you are Incognito (guards are unaware of your presence) guards will only react to dead bodies or illegal actions (killing, pushing them, looting, picking pockets…). If you don't do any of these actions you'll remain anonymous.

4.1.2 Escape[edit | edit source]

In order to escape from your enemies, break their line of sight and hide.

Enemies that are investigating you (yellow marker) will walk toward you until you break their line of sight (white marker). Once they reach the last place they saw you, they will give up if they no longer see you.

Enemies in conflict with you (red marker) will keep chasing until you break the line of sight with them and hide.

4.1.3 Vanish (Hide and/or Blend)[edit | edit source]

Jump in a hay bale, blend with the crowd, sit on a bench between some people, hide in the back of a cart or in a merchant stand, or jump in a well to escape from enemies that are chasing or investigating you. Some enemies will search the area rather than chase after you, so keep in mind that you may have to kill them as well.

Once hidden or blended, you’ll begin to vanish (blue in the Notoriety Meter).

4.2 Notoriety Loop[edit | edit source]

The more you enter conflict and kill enemies, the more your Notoriety rises.

To lower your notoriety meter, you can remove wanted posters from walls, bribe newspaper boys, and bribe Newspaper Printers.

Removing Wanted Posters to lower your notoriety slowly. Bribing Newspaper Boys will make them stop talking about you. Buying special editions from Newspaper Printers will remove your notoriety completely.

5 IN-GAME MENUS[edit | edit source]

5.1 Weapon and Tool Selector + Quick Inventory[edit | edit source]

Holding [RB] opens the Weapon and Tool Wheel. You can independently select the weapon and tool that you want to equip by moving [LS] and [RS].

During gameplay, the Quick Inventory allows you to select weapons and tools without opening the Weapon Wheel. Press [Dpad] in a direction to select the weapon assigned to that direction.

You can customize your Quick Inventory when the Weapon Wheel is open. Press the [Dpad] in any direction to assign the last weapon or tool that you selected onto that direction.

5.2 Animus Menu[edit | edit source]

Press [Back] to display a map of the area and open the Animus Menu. The Animus Menu includes a host of new functionality, so make sure to explore a little to get to know it. The Animus is able to fill in a basic outline of the area from historical data, but details will have to be filled in by you. As you navigate the world you will reveal the map in more detail. Zoom in and out with [LTm] and [RTm]. You can zoom all the way out to see the East Coast map, and from there you can zoom back in to see the map of the cities, Frontier or Homestead.

5.2.1 Logbook[edit | edit source]

The Logbook collects and records the status of all of your Citizen Missions, Club Challenges, and Almanac Pages. The first level of the list contains the high level collections of each mission type, and at the second level of the menu you can see the details of each side mission you currently have.

5.2.2 Inventory[edit | edit source]

This is a list of all of the items Connor has collected that you can trade with the stores. Items related to a mission cannot be sold.

5.2.3 Hunting Map[edit | edit source]

The Hunting Map is only available in the Frontier and Homestead maps once you’ve unlocked the system as Connor. It shows the different regions of the Frontier, and the different animals that you have discovered in that region. It is useful when you want to hunt a particularly rare type of animal; if you’ve previously discovered that animal, you will know where to start looking for it again. An animal is considered 'discovered' in an area if you’ve analyzed a sign it has left (footprints, scat, etc.) or if you trap or kill the animal.

5.2.4 Liberation Missions Map[edit | edit source]

The Liberation Missions map is only available in cities once you’ve unlocked the system as Connor. This details your progress of removing the Templar influence in each district of the city, as well as your contact in each district.

5.2.5 Naval Map[edit | edit source]

You can access Naval missions through the Naval Map interface. Simply move the selection to the naval icon to view any Naval missions that are available at this moment. This menu becomes available as soon as you’ve unlocked the naval section of the game.

5.3 Assassin Wheel[edit | edit source]

Hold [LB] to open the Assassin Wheel. This allows you to select which ability is active and will be called when you press [LB]. You can also access the Guild menu by pressing [X] while the Assassin Wheel is open. The Guild Menu allows you to send Recruits on missions to gain experience, loot and money.

When you are in conflict, the selected Assassin ability is always changed to “Call Backup”. This will cause your Recruit to jump in to help you out in combat. Once the conflict is resolved, the order will return to what you had selected previously.

6 PAUSE MENU[edit | edit source]

The Pause menu gives access to the system functions of the Animus.

6.1 Reload Last Checkpoint (not in Exploration)[edit | edit source]

Selecting this will return you to the last checkpoint inside of a mission. If you’ve missed an optional objective, it might help you to just reload a checkpoint rather than start the mission over again!

6.2 Leave Animus[edit | edit source]

This ejects Desmond from the Animus, returning you to the Present.

6.3 Restart Memory (not in Exploration)[edit | edit source]

Selecting this will restart the memory you are currently in from the beginning.

6.4 Exit Memory (not in Exploration)[edit | edit source]

Selecting this will return you to Exploration mode without saving your progress in the mission.

6.5 Quit[edit | edit source]

This will end your session and return you to the main menu.

6.6 Notification Center[edit | edit source]

This lists all of the AFS that have occurred recently. You can find out what you missed during a mission by visiting the notification center.

6.7 Options[edit | edit source]

Configure your gameplay experience in here.

6.8 Animus Training Center[edit | edit source]

View this manual and other tips on how to play the game. It also allows you access to the stats and leaderboards.

6.9 DNA Tracker[edit | edit source]

View your progress in the game. The DNA Tracker also allows you to replay memories you’ve already completed; find the memory you want in the grid and press [A].

6.10 Animus Database[edit | edit source]

View information about the people you’ve met, places you’ve visited and other fascinating tidbits. The database also allows you to view unlocked artwork and read letters.
Hold [RT]: Hold the High Profile button to make your ancestor sprint and perform freerunning.

Holding this button down makes Connor automatically adapt to any object in the path. Just push [LS] in the direction you want him to go. You no longer have to hold the [A] button to freerun!

While you are freerunning, you will only take “safe” jumps. If you want to jump off of where you are with no regard for safety, you can press [A].
Also, if you are using [RT] to freerunning through trees and there is a choice between going forward and going up, Connor will move forward by default. You can hold [A] to make Connor jump up higher in the trees.

If there is a low object such as a small fence in front of Connor, [RT] will first make Connor jump on top of the fence and then continue moving in whatever direction you are pressing. If you want to make Connor pass smoothly over the small object, hold [A] while you approach it.

While holding [RT] you will also automatically pass under objects that have small openings underneath them.
If you press and hold [X] while you are in High Profile, you will prepare your weapon to strike the first enemy that comes in range. You will be able to continue moving fluidly while you take down the enemy. If you have the hidden blades selected, Connor can take out 2 enemies at the same time.

While in high profile, Connor will automatically shove people out of his way. If you want to tackle a specific highlighted target, press [B] when you are near them.
You will automatically face the enemy you are moving towards.

Press [X] to attack the enemy you are facing.

Press [Y] to use your currently selected tool.

Press [A] to perform an opening attack; this is useful for defeating enemies that deflect your normal attacks.

Press and hold [B] to deflect incoming enemy attacks.
Enemies that are attacking you have a small red sign above their head. If you press [B] while the sign is visible, you can counter their move.

Once you start a counter move, you can choose different ways to finish it off:

[X] Kills the enemy
[Y] Uses your tool on the enemy
[A] Disarms and stuns the enemy
[B] Throws the enemy
Certain enemies are not vulnerable to your normal attacks. You must use a different strategy to defeat them.

If an enemy has a yellow sign above their head, they are going to perform a special attack - such as shoot a gun, throw a grenade, or perform a heavy attack. These attacks cannot be blocked.

Grenades and Heavy Attacks must be dodged or avoided. To defend yourself against a gunshot, move close to another enemy and press [A] to use them as a human shield.
High Profile The Recruit HUD displays the currently selected Assassin Recruit ability. The indicators next to the icon show how many Assassin Recruits are available. If the icon is bright, you have a valid target selected for your Recruit ability. Some abilities such as Ambush do not need a target, and are triggered where you are standing.

3.1.6 Mini-Map[edit | edit source]

The Notoriety Meter is also a Risk Indicator that is synchronized with your enemies’ state.

Empty: You are Anonymous.
Green: You are Hidden.
Red: You are in Open Conflict with Guards - you have to escape or fight.
Yellow: You are in Open Conflict, but have broken the line of sight from Guards so you can hide.
Blue: You are vanishing.
The more notorious you are, the more guards will pay attention to you.

At the first level of Notoriety, guards are vaguely aware of you. They will slowly notice your presence if you are not blended, and will then investigate you before entering conflict.

At the second level of Notoriety, guards are aware of your presence and will investigate you on sight.

At the third level of Notoriety, guards will enter conflict with you on sight, and certain high-level guards will search for you in the crowd. There will also be more guards will be present in the city overall.

Note: Because being on rooftops is forbidden, snipers will always detect anyone on sight.

Enemies in military zones (red zones on the map) are more alert and will pay more attention to you if they see you; even if you are not notorious they will be interested in your presence.
With the main map selected, you can scroll around the map using [RS]. You can also use [LSX] to reveal the map filters. Scrolling through the filters changes the type of icons that are displayed on the map.
From the main level of the map wheel, you can also access the Logbook, Inventory, Hunting Map, Liberation Missions, and Naval Map using [LSY]. See below for details on each of these sections.
0x51ce17edd 0x51ce17edd Clicking [LSpress] activates Eagle Vision. Eagle Vision conveys information by highlighting environmental features. Eagle Vision is color-coded: red highlighting indicates enemies, blue indicates allies, white indicates civilians with information or missions and gold indicates mission targets.

Pressing [LB] uses your currently selected Assassin Recruit ability.

Pressing [RB] reloads any empty weapons you have selected. Holding [RB] opens the weapon wheel.

[@!]3.3 Personas[edit | edit source]

[@!]Personas
Aveline has access to 3 distinctive personas:

1. The Assassin
As an assassin Aveline can free run and fight her way through hordes of enemies. Unfortunately, everyone is always suspicious of her. To lower the Assassin's notoriety she must bribe corrupt magistrates.

2. The Lady
Being the daughter of a wealthy citizen and participating in his business ventures presents Aveline as a noble lady. People love her and will treat her in a more relaxed way. She can not free run or carry heavier weapons in this persona. To lower the Lady's notoriety she must kill witnesses.

3. The Slave
Slaves are numerous in New Orleans during that time period. Nobody pays attention to them, and while dressed as a slave Aveline can freely move around and even free run. She also has access to more weapons compared to the Lady. To lower the Slave's notoriety she must tear down wanted posters on the walls.

[@!]Hold [R2] to open the Weapon and Tool Wheel. Weapons and/or tools can be selected by moving [LeftAnalogStick] and [RightAnalogStick]. They can also be assigned to the Quick Inventory by pressing [DPadLeft]/[DPadUp]/[DPadRight]/[DPadDown].

[@!]4.2 Persona Selection Menu[edit | edit source]

[@!]In this menu the current active persona can be changed. There is also information regarding all the available personas, their current notoriety levels, as well as a short description. Not all personas are available in all missions.

[@!]5 BUSINESS WOMAN[edit | edit source]

[@!]5.1 Warehouse[edit | edit source]

[@!]The Warehouse is Aveline's base of operations. It provides access to her outfits (personas), weapons, and gives her a way to command her fleet of trading ships.

[@!]5.2 Business Rivals[edit | edit source]

[@!]As a business woman Aveline will face fierce competition, both fair and unfair. As she takes out her rivals, one way or the other, she will receive various rewards.

[@!]5.3 Shops[edit | edit source]

[@!]When Aveline owns a shop the weapons or outfits from it are available at a reduced price. The trade system can also be accessed from there.

[@%]5.4 Dressing Chambers[edit | edit source]

[@!]Buying and renovating abandoned buildings will turn them into secret hideouts, which Aveline can use to switch her current persona.

[@!]6 ECONOMIC SYSTEM[edit | edit source]

[@!]6.1 Introduction[edit | edit source]

[@!]As Aveline takes over parts her family's business she is able to earn a considerable amount of money by trading. She can buy goods from one port and transport them to another to make a profit, but bad weather and pirates both make those endeavours inherently risky.

[@!]6.2 Buying and selling ships[edit | edit source]

[@%]Ships can be bought in each port that is open on the map. They can also be sold, of course. The maximum number of ships Aveline can own at any given time is eight.

[@%]6.3 Buying and selling goods[edit | edit source]

[@!]Use [LeftAnalogStick] to select a port with one of Aveline's ships docked there, then use [RightAnalogStick] to select the specific ship, and finally select "Buy goods" to load the ship. When the ship reaches a port demanding the cargo of the ship the goods will be sold automatically.

[@!]6.4 Travel time and hazards[edit | edit source]

[@!]Ship travel time is affected by the length of the naval route, as well as the speed of the ship itself. As a general rule faster ships will carry less cargo and will require more management, but may prove to be more profitable. Any encountered hazard will increase the travel time.

Animus Omega[edit | edit source]

1.1 Edward Kenway[edit | edit source]

In 1712, Edward married Caroline Scott, a woman of slender means born in Bristol, against her parents’ wishes. Edward touched on the idea of joining a privateering fleet sailing for the West Indies with the hope of making war against the Spanish and collecting unchecked sums of gold. This, he told his wife, was their get-rich-quick scheme. Being a sensible and prudent woman, Caroline tried to discourage these ideas. Edward decided he needed to earn his fortune fast. He left for the West Indies one month later.

3.1 Basic Ground Actions[edit | edit source]

3.1.1 Move[edit | edit source]

Move using [LS]. Up or down moves Edward forward or backward. Left or right makes him turn to the left or to the right. Press and hold [A] to walk faster; you will also gently push people out of your way while holding [A].

3.1.2 High & Low Profile Concept[edit | edit source]

It is possible to change the intensity of Edward's actions. By default, Edward will be in Low Profile, but his state can be changed to High Profile by pressing and holding [RT].
In Low Profile, Edward’s actions are inconspicuous and more socially acceptable. Fast and powerful Assassin moves, such as free running or tackling, are available in High Profile.

3.1.3 Contextual Interaction[edit | edit source]

Pressing [B] in front of an interactive object makes Edward interact with it. You can also pick pockets by holding [B] while in Low Profile.

3.1.4 Look[edit | edit source]

Use [RS] to look around the environment. Pressing [RSpress] re-centers the camera.

3.1.5 Eagle Vision[edit | edit source]

Clicking [LSpress] activates Eagle Vision. Eagle Vision conveys information by highlighting environmental features. Eagle Vision is color-coded: red highlighting indicates enemies, white indicates hiding locations, and gold indicates mission targets.

3.1.6 Surface Swimming[edit | edit source]

Swim using [LS]. Press and hold [RT] to swim faster. Hold [B] to dive below the water surface in order to progress undetected. The time you can stay underwater is limited by your oxygen gauge.

3.1.7 Island Information Panel[edit | edit source]

Press and hold [RB] to show the island information panel. It displays precious information on what is left to collect in the area you are in.

3.1.8 Skip Cinematic[edit | edit source]

During a cinematic, press and hold [B] to skip the cinematic.

3.2 Free Running[edit | edit source]

Hold [RT]: Hold the High Profile button to sprint and perform free running.

Holding this button down makes Edward automatically adapt to any object in the path. Just push [LS] in the direction you want him to go.

While you are free running, you will only take “safe” jumps. If you want to jump from where you are, with no regard for safety, you can press [A].

If there is a low object such as a small fence in front of Edward, [RT] will first make Edward jump on top of the fence and then continue moving in whatever direction you are pressing. If you want to make Edward pass smoothly over the small object, hold [A] while you approach it.

While holding [RT] you will also automatically pass under objects that have small openings underneath them.

If you press and hold [X] while you are in High Profile, you will prepare your weapon to strike the first enemy that comes in range. You will be able to continue moving fluidly while you take down the enemy. If you have the hidden blades selected, Edward can take out 2 enemies at the same time.

While in High Profile, Edward will automatically shove people out of his way. If you want to tackle a specific highlighted target, press [B] when you are near them.

3.3 Weapons & Tools[edit | edit source]

3.3.1 Weapon and tools selection[edit | edit source]

Press [Dpad] to select the weapon and tool that you want to equip.
Press [Dpad] up and down to select weapons.
Press [Dpad] left and right to select tools.

3.3.2 Targeting[edit | edit source]

As you move around in the environment, you’ll notice that only some characters are highlighted; these characters are your ranged targets. Only enemy and military targets are highlighted. When a target is highlighted, you can perform specific actions against them, such as using a tool quick shot, or send group manipulation orders toward them.

3.3.3 Free Aim Shooting[edit | edit source]

With pistols or blowpipe, hold [LT] to activate the Free Aim Mode. It allows you to target any character at will. Simply move the crosshairs over the character you want to target and press [RT] to shoot.
Shooting with a pistol at an enemy's head is a lethal shot.

3.3.4 Quick Shots[edit | edit source]

Tap [Y] to perform a quick shot at a highlighted target. This will interrupt the enemy action and it should be used as a strategic advantage against enemies that are about to use a range weapon against you. Edward can craft a new pistol holster to perform up to 4 quick shots in succession by simply pressing [Y] repeatedly.

3.3.5 Reloading[edit | edit source]

You can reload any weapon by using [LB]. The weapon will also automatically reload if you try to use it and it is empty.

3.3.6 Weapons[edit | edit source]

Pressing [X] will use your currently equipped melee weapon.
Additionally, the hidden blades allow you to perform stealth kills: if you are in Low Profile, attacking a target will make Edward perform a stealth kill which allows you to escape the scene before anyone notices what happened. If you are in High Profile (holding [RT]) your kill will be overt and witnessed.

3.3.7 Pick-up Weapons[edit | edit source]

Edward can pick up enemy weapons by moving over them and using the [B] button.
Some weapons, such as muskets, have two functions. If you press [X] you will use the musket as a melee weapon; if you hold [LT] and then press [RT] you will shoot with the musket.

3.3.8 Tools[edit | edit source]

Pressing [Y] will use your currently selected tool. Some tools require you to hold [Y] to deploy them.

4.1 Fight Basics[edit | edit source]

If Edward is near an enemy that is fighting, he will automatically adopt a fighting stance and strafe around the enemy. You can move out of the fight stance by holding [RT].
You will automatically face the enemy you are moving toward.

Press [X] to attack the enemy you are facing.

Press [Y] to use your currently selected tool.

Press [A] to perform an opening attack; this is useful for defeating enemies that deflect your normal attacks.

Press and hold [B] to deflect incoming enemy attacks.

4.2 Counter Moves[edit | edit source]

Enemies that are attacking you have a small red sign above their head. If you press [B] while the sign is visible, you can counter their move.

Once you start a counter move, you can choose different ways to finish it off:

[X] Kills the enemy
[Y] Uses your tool on the enemy
[A] Disarms and stuns the enemy
[B] Throws the enemy

4.3 Enemy types[edit | edit source]

Certain enemies are not vulnerable to your normal attacks. You must use a different strategy to defeat them.

Grenades and Heavy Attacks must be dodged or avoided. To defend yourself against a gunshot, move close to another enemy and press [A] to use them as a human shield.

5.1 Naval Action[edit | edit source]

5.1.1 Speed Control[edit | edit source]

Turn using [LS]. When your ship is static, press [A] to use your half-sail speed. In half-sail your ship is slow but has an increased turning radius.
Press [A] again to go from half-sail to the full sail speed in order to go even faster.
When you are far away from a coast and from an enemy ship, you can press [A] again to trigger the Travel speed. This is the fastest speed you can get; if you encounter enemies or sea hazards, you will be automatically kicked out of the Travel speed.

You can lower your ship’s speed by pressing [B]. This will reduce your speed to the previous sail’s speed. When you are in half-sail, press [B] again to stop your ship.

5.1.2 Release the Wheel[edit | edit source]

When your ship is stopped and out of conflict with any other ships, hold [B] to release the wheel and go on foot. You can stop your ship at any location to jump and reach it. You can also use ropes on board your ship to make the transition even faster.

5.1.3 Contextual Interaction[edit | edit source]

In specific locations, hold [B] to trigger contextual actions in order to: dock near a pier, use the diving bell to dive underwater, or start harpooning.

5.1.4 Spyglass[edit | edit source]

When you are at your ship’s command, press and hold [RB] to equip your spyglass. Use [LS] to aim at a ship or a location and move forward or backward the [RS] to adjust your spyglass until it displays the information about the ship or the location’s content.

5.1.5 Sea Shanties[edit | edit source]

Press [Dpad] right to tell your crew to start singing.
Press [Dpad] down to tell your crew to stop.

5.2 Captain’s Cabin[edit | edit source]

When your ship is stopped you can enter your Captain’s Cabin. In the Cabin you can interact with several ingredients.
Interact with the ship model to buy and equip your ship with new upgrades and customizations.
Interact with the Map on the table to access Kenway’s Fleet.
Interact with the mannequin to change your character’s outfit and weapons.

5.3 Naval Fight[edit | edit source]

5.3.1 Aiming[edit | edit source]

The weapon selected during a naval fight varies depending on the direction you are looking at. Move the camera with [RS] to select between the front, sides, or rear of your ship.
Hold [LT] to activate the Aiming Mode. During Aiming Mode you can adjust the projectile shooting distance by moving [RS] up or down and adjust where to shoot by moving [RS] left and right.

5.3.2 Round Shots[edit | edit source]

Orient your camera on the side until your broadside cannons are highlighted and hold [LT] to enter aiming mode. Tap or hold [RT] to shot your basic round shots.
Round shots produce basic damages but contain unlimited ammo. The longer you hold [LT], the more precise your shot and the more projectiles will hit the target.

5.3.3 Chain Shots[edit | edit source]

Look forward and press [RT] to shoot chain shots straight forward. Chain shots produce very low damages but slow down enemy ships for a few seconds. You can also enter aiming mode by holding [LT] for more precise shots.

5.3.4 Heavy Shot[edit | edit source]

Orient your camera on the side until your broadside cannons are highlighted and tap [RT] to shot your Heavy Shot rounds. Heavy shots deal larger damage to enemy ships, however they have a very short range and their ammunition capacity is limited.

5.3.5 Fire Barrels[edit | edit source]

Orient your camera toward the rear of your ship and tap [RT] to shoot your Fire Barrels. Fire Barrels will float on water and explode upon contact with enemy ships. They are great chase breakers when enemy ships are pursuing you. You can also enter aiming mode by holding [LT] to release the Fire Barrels more precisely. Fire Barrels will explode after some time and their number is limited by your storage capacity.

5.3.6 Mortar[edit | edit source]

Hold [LB] to enter the mortar mode. Press [RT] to shoot the mortar. Mortar shots deal heavy damages; it is also a very long-range weapon that allows you to attack enemies from a distance. The mortar ammunition capacity is limited.

5.3.7 Swivel Gun[edit | edit source]

Hold [Y] and then release to shoot with the Swivel Gun. The Swivel Gun is a very powerful weapon that deals heavy damages when weak points are revealed on enemy ships. The Swivel Gun is also useful to destroy Fire Barrels from a distance. The Swivel Gun has an unlimited ammo capacity.
The Swivel Gun can also be used when you are on foot during a boarding to shoot at enemies on the enemy ship.

5.3.8 Bracing[edit | edit source]

When you are under the enemy fire, Hold [X] to brace and put your crew into cover. For a short time you will get reduced damages. Once used, this ability will be unavailable for a very short time while your crew recovers and takes a breath. This is an important tactic to master during naval battles.

5.3.9 Ramming[edit | edit source]

With a ramming upgrade equipped, your ship can dash straight into enemy ships in order to deal damages. Watch out as some enemies might use the same strategy.

5.4 Boarding[edit | edit source]

5.4.1 Triggering a Boarding[edit | edit source]

When an enemy ship is out of health, its mast breaks and it goes into an incapacitated state. Approach the enemy ship to trigger a boarding by holding the [B] button.
When the boarding starts, your crew will throw grappling hooks toward the enemy ship.

5.4.2 Crew Fighting and Boarding Objectives[edit | edit source]

During the boarding, you need to accomplish a certain number of objectives in order to make the enemy crew surrender. Your crew will fight alongside with you during the boarding.
If your crew meter is depleted, your crew will retreat and you will lose the boarding.
Use the Swivel gun, ropes, and elevators at your advantage to reach your objectives and avoid the massive fight that is happening on the decks.

5.4.3 Boarding Outcome[edit | edit source]

When all objectives are completed, the enemy crew will surrender. You can then decide their destiny. You can capture the enemy fleet to add it to your fleet, salvage the ship parts to repair your own ship, or release the ship to reduce your wanted level. Whatever your decision, you will also steal the whole ship’s cargo and make it your own.

5.5 Cargo and Resources[edit | edit source]

5.5.1 Gathering Resources[edit | edit source]

By boarding and plundering ships you will gather cargo. Cargo can also be found in small quantities floating at sea or on the ground. Several locations, such as Warehouses, also conceal cargo deposits.
Your ship has a limited cargo capacity, so don’t forget to sell cargo or upgrade your ship.

5.5.2 Resources Types and Function[edit | edit source]

There are 5 types of cargo in the game. Wood is the most common cargo resource and it is required to build new upgrades for your ship. Metal is uncommon and is required for upgrades too. Cloth is pretty common and is mainly used for cosmetic ship upgrades. Sugar and Rum are rare resources that must be exchanged for money in at a Harbormaster's.

5.6 Ship Upgrades[edit | edit source]

Ship upgrades are mandatory if you want to progress as a pirate in the West Indies. From a Harbourmaster's or directly from your Captain’s Cabin, you can acquire new ship upgrades. Some will allow you to increase your hull’s resistance or your storage capacities, but others will increase your firepower, the number of cannons, or even provide you with new weapon types.
Upgrades will require gold, but most of them will also require Cargo to build them. You can find Cargo by attacking other ships, then boarding and plundering them.

5.7 Wanted System[edit | edit source]

Defeating and plundering ships can get you into trouble. Your reputation as a pirate will increase with your illegal actions at sea. The Wanted Meter indicates the status of your reputation, if it runs too high hunter ships will be sent after you and will chase you down without mercy. To get rid of them, defeat them or dock into a port and bribe a local officer to reset your Wanted Level. The higher your Wanted Level is, the stronger the hunters are.

6.1 Ground HUD[edit | edit source]

The Life bar indicates how much health you currently have. Get out of combat to rest up and regenerate your health.

6.1.2 Weapon Icon[edit | edit source]

Indicates your currently equipped weapon.

6.1.3 Tool Icon[edit | edit source]

If a ranged weapon is selected, the bars on the icon indicate how many shots you have available before reloading.

6.1.4 Puppeteer[edit | edit source]

Indicates the available action. Actions in the puppeteer will update based on the contextual actions and the equipped tool and weapon.

6.1.5 Character Icon[edit | edit source]

The character icon shows the level of danger around you. It turns red when you are in conflict with enemies that have a direct line of sight with you. It changes to yellow when there are alerted enemies around that are looking for you. It goes back to normal when there is no longer any danger around.

6.1.6 SSI[edit | edit source]

The SSI is the Social Status Indicator that shows if an enemy is in conflict or looking for you. When the enemy SSI is yellow it means that they are alerted to your presence. Red SSI means that the enemy is in conflict or chasing you and that they have a direct line of sight.

6.1.7 Mini-Map[edit | edit source]

The Mini-Map displays the location of various important objectives. A good way to reveal the Mini-Map is to look for viewpoints at the top of buildings and scan the view. Your next main line story mission is always indicated with a (!).

6.2 Naval HUD[edit | edit source]

6.2.1 Life Bar[edit | edit source]

The Life Bar indicates how much resistance your ship’s hull has left. The ship's Life Bar is divided into 3 segments; to regenerate the currently damaged segment, you should extract yourself from combat. If a segment is entirely depleted, it needs to be repaired by a harbormaster. You can increase your ship’s resistance by upgrading your hull.

6.2.2 Weapon Icon[edit | edit source]

Indicates your currently available weapon. The weapon will change based on your camera orientation.

6.2.3 Puppeteer[edit | edit source]

Indicates the available actions.

6.2.4 Wanted Meter[edit | edit source]

6.2.7 Mini-Map[edit | edit source]

The Mini-Map displays the surrounding locations and activities in the West Indies Sea. Capture naval forts in order to reveal a location's content.

7.1 Detection Loop[edit | edit source]

7.1.1 Incognito state[edit | edit source]

When you are Incognito (guards are ignoring your presence) guards will only react to dead bodies or illegal actions (killing, pushing them, looting, pickpocketing, etc.). If you don't do any of these actions you'll remain anonymous.

7.1.2 Restricted Areas[edit | edit source]

These protected areas are under strict control and no one is supposed to enter them. The enemies will attack you on sight if they spot you.

7.1.3 Escape[edit | edit source]

Enemies in conflict with you (red marker) will keep chasing until you break the line of sight with them and hide.

7.1.4 Vanish (Hide and/or Blend)[edit | edit source]

Jump in a hay bale, hide in dense vegetation, blend with the crowd, sit on a bench between some people, or jump in a well to escape from enemies that are chasing or investigating you. Some enemies will search the area rather than chase after you, so keep in mind that you may have to kill them as well.

1.1 Shay Patrick Cormac[edit | edit source]

Shay Patrick Cormac was the son of an Irish sailor, trained from boyhood to wield a sword and pistol. After his father and crew perished in a naval disaster, Shay returned to the city of his birth, New York. He spent many nights and days in a drunken stupor until help came from an unexpected source: the Colonial Assassin Brotherhood. Shay joined their numbers and became an Assassin. Despite being promised answers to the many doubts he had about his life, Shay found himself faced with more questions.

Clicking [LSpress] activates Eagle Vision. Eagle Vision conveys information by highlighting environmental features. Eagle Vision is color-coded: red highlighting indicates enemies, white indicates hiding locations, gold indicates mission targets, and blue indicates allies.
Whenever there are powerful enemies hidden nearby, the compass at the bottom of the screen in Eagle Vision will also display the approximate direction they lie in. Captains are indicated in RED and Stalkers in YELLOW on the compass.

3.1.6 Surface swimming[edit | edit source]

Swim using [LS]. Press and hold [RT] to swim faster. Hold [B] to dive below the water surface and progress undetected. The time you can stay underwater is limited by your oxygen gauge.

3.1.7 Location information panel[edit | edit source]

Press and hold [RB] to show the location information panel. It displays precious information on what is left to collect in your current area.

3.1.8 Skip cinematic[edit | edit source]

During some cinematics, press and hold [B] to skip the cinematic.

3.2 Free running[edit | edit source]

Hold [RT]: Hold the High Profile button to sprint and perform free running.

Holding this button down makes Shay automatically adapt to any objects in his path. Just push [LS] in the direction you want him to go.

While you are free running, you will make only “safe” jumps. If you want to jump from where you are, with no regard for safety, you can press [A].

If there is a low object such as a small fence in front of Shay, [RT] will first make Shay jump on top of the fence and then continue moving in whatever direction you are pressing. If you want to make Shay pass smoothly over a small object, hold [A] while you approach it.

While holding [RT] you will also automatically pass under objects that have small openings underneath them.

If you press and hold [X] while you are in High Profile, you will prepare your weapon to strike the first enemy that comes in range. You will be able to continue moving fluidly while you take down the enemy. If you have the hidden blades selected, Shay can take out two enemies at the same time.

While in High Profile, Shay will automatically shove people out of his way. If you want to tackle a specific highlighted target, press [B] when you are near them.

3.3 Weapons and tools[edit | edit source]

3.3.1 Weapon and tools selection[edit | edit source]

Use [Dpad] to select the weapon, tool, and ammunition type that you want to equip.
Press [Up] to select air rifle darts.
Press [Down] to select grenades.
Press [Left] to select weapons.
Press [Right] to select tools.

3.3.2 Targeting[edit | edit source]

As you move around in the environment, you’ll notice that only some characters are highlighted; these characters are your ranged targets. When a target is highlighted, you can perform specific actions against them, such as using a quick shot.

3.3.3 Free aim shooting[edit | edit source]

With pistols, musket, or the air rifle, hold [LT] to activate Free Aim Mode. It allows you to target any character at will. Simply move the crosshairs over the character you want to target and press [RT] to shoot.
Shooting a pistol or a musket at an enemy's head is a lethal shot.

3.3.4 Quick shots[edit | edit source]

Tap [Y] to perform a quick shot at a highlighted target. This will interrupt the enemy action. It should be used as a strategic advantage against enemies who are about to use a ranged weapon against you. Shay can craft a new pistol holster to perform up to two quick shots in succession by simply pressing [Y] repeatedly.

3.3.5 Reloading[edit | edit source]

You can reload any weapon by using [LB]. The weapon will also automatically reload if you try to use it and it is empty.

3.3.6 Weapons[edit | edit source]

Pressing [X] will use your currently-equipped weapon. Your primary target has a stronger visual highlight than the ranged target.
You can prepare an attack by holding [X] as you run toward an enemy. When you are in range, the attack will automatically be triggered. You can use this technique to do fluid, continuous attacks without stopping.
If you select the hidden blades as your weapon, you will be able to assassinate two targets at the same time if they are in range. Additionally, the hidden blades allow you to perform stealth kills: if you are in Low Profile, attacking a target will make Shay perform a stealth kill which allows you to escape the scene before anyone notices what happened. If you are in High Profile (holding [RT]) your kill will be overt and witnessed.

3.3.7 Picking up weapons[edit | edit source]

Shay can pick up enemy weapons by moving over them and using the [B] button.

If Shay is near an enemy that is fighting, he will automatically adopt a fighting stance and strafe around the enemy. You can move out of the fighting stance by holding [RT].
You will automatically face the enemy you are moving toward.
Press [X] to attack the enemy you are facing.
Press [Y] to use your currently selected tool.
Press [A] to break the defense of an enemy; this is useful for defeating enemies that deflect your normal attacks.
Press [B] when an enemy attacks to counter the attack.
Press and hold [B] to deflect incoming enemy attacks.

4.2 Counter moves[edit | edit source]

Enemies that are attacking you have a small red sign above their head. If you press [B] while the sign is visible, you can counter their attack.

After you start a counter move, you have different options to finish it:

[X]: Kills the enemy
[Y]: Uses your tool or ranged weapon on the enemy
[A]: Disarms and stuns the enemy
[B]: Throws the enemy

4.3 Enemy types[edit | edit source]

Certain enemies are not vulnerable to your normal attacks. You must use a different strategy to defeat them.

Grenades and Heavy Attacks must be dodged or avoided. To defend yourself against a gunshot, move close to another enemy and press [A] to use them as a human shield.

5.1 Naval actions[edit | edit source]

5.1.1 Speed control[edit | edit source]

Maneuver your ship using [LS]. When your ship is static, press [A] to start sailing at half-sail speed. In half-sail your ship is slow but has a tighter turning radius and is more agile.
Press [A] again to go from half-sail to the full sail speed in order to go even faster.
When you are away from a coast and from an enemy ship, you can press [A] again to trigger the Animus Travel speed. This is the fastest speed you can go; if you encounter enemies or sea hazards, you will automatically transition to full sail speed.

You can lower your ship’s speed by pressing [B]. This will reduce your speed to the previous sail’s speed. When you are in half-sail, press [B] again to stop your ship.

5.1.2 Release the wheel[edit | edit source]

When your ship is stationary and out of conflict with any other ships, holding [B] will release the wheel and let the player continue on foot. You can stop your ship at or near any location and then disembark from the ship to visit that location. Another way to leave your ship is to use one of the ropes tied on the sides of your ship.

5.1.3 Contextual interaction[edit | edit source]

In specific locations, hold [B] to trigger contextual actions in order to: dock near a pier, start harpooning, or initiate boarding.

5.1.4 Spyglass[edit | edit source]

When you are in command of your ship, press and hold [Up] to use your spyglass. Use [LS] to aim at a ship or a location and push [RS] up or down to zoom in or out in order to identify the ship or location and see some information about it.

5.1.5 Sea shanties[edit | edit source]

Press [Right] to tell your crew to start singing.
Press [Down] to tell your crew to stop.

5.2 Captain’s cabin[edit | edit source]

When your ship is stationary you can enter the captain’s cabin, where you can interact with several ingredients.
Interact with the ship model to buy and equip your ship with new upgrades and customizations.
Interact with the map on the table to access the Naval Campaign.
Interact with the mannequin to change your character’s outfit and weapons.

5.3 Naval combat[edit | edit source]

5.3.1 Aiming[edit | edit source]

The weapon selected during a naval fight varies depending on the direction in which you are looking. Move the camera with [RS] to select between the front, sides, and rear of your ship. Note that over time you will have the opportunity to gain new weapons.
Hold [LT] to activate Aiming Mode. During Aiming Mode you can adjust the projectile trajectory by pressing [RS] up or down and adjust where to shoot by pressing [RS] left and right.

5.3.2 Broadside cannons[edit | edit source]

Orient your camera to the side until your broadside cannons are highlighted and hold [LT] to enter aiming mode. Tap or hold [RT] to fire your basic round shots.
Round shot doesn't deal much damage, but the ammunition supply is unlimited. The longer you hold [LT], the more precise your shot is, and more projectiles will hit the target.

5.3.3 Bow carronade[edit | edit source]

Look forward and press [RT] to with the bow carronades. These cannons can stun enemy ships and stop their movement for a brief moment. You can also enter aiming mode by holding [LT] for more precise shots.

5.3.4 Heavy shot[edit | edit source]

Orient your camera to the side until your broadside cannons are highlighted and tap [RT] to fire your Heavy Shot rounds. Heavy shot deals heavy damage to enemy ships. However, it has a shorter range and limited ammunition capacity.

5.3.5 Burning oil[edit | edit source]

Orient your camera toward the rear of your ship and tap [RT] to release burning oil. Burning oil will float on water and cause damage to the enemy ships that sail into it. It is a great chase breaker when enemy ships are pursuing you. You can also enter aiming mode by holding [LT] to release the burning oil. The amount of burning oil you can carry is limited by your storage capacity.

5.3.6 Mortar[edit | edit source]

Hold [LB] to enter aim with the mortars. Press [RT] to fire the mortars. The mortars deal heavy damage, and they are also a very long-range weapon that allow you to attack enemies from a distance. The mortar ammunition capacity is limited.

5.3.7 Puckle gun[edit | edit source]

Hold [RB] and aim with [RS] to use the Puckle gun. The Puckle gun is a rapid-fire weapon that deals low damage, but is very effective when targeting the weak points of targeted ships. It can also be used to destroy fire barrels from a distance. The Puckle gun has an unlimited ammo capacity.
The Puckle gun can also be used during a boarding sequence to shoot at enemies on the enemy ship.

5.3.8 Bracing[edit | edit source]

When you are under enemy fire, or about to be hit by a rogue wave, hold [X] to brace and put your crew into cover. For a short time you will receive reduced damage. Once used, this ability will be unavailable for a very short time while your crew recovers and takes a breath. This is an important tactic to master during naval battles.

5.3.9 Ramming[edit | edit source]

With a ramming upgrade equipped, your ship can dash straight into enemy ships to deal damage. Watch out as some enemies might use the same strategy.
You can also use a special ramming speed if you have a ram equipped. In order to do that, look to the front of your ship, hold [LT], and then press [A].

5.4 Boarding[edit | edit source]

5.4.1 Triggering boarding[edit | edit source]

When an enemy ship is out of health, its mast breaks and the vessel goes into an incapacitated state. Approach the enemy ship and trigger a boarding by holding the [B] button.
When the boarding starts, your crew will throw grappling hooks toward the enemy ship.

5.4.2 Crew fighting and boarding objectives[edit | edit source]

During the boarding, you need to accomplish a certain number of objectives to make the enemy crew surrender. Your crew will fight alongside you during the boarding.
If your crew meter is depleted, your crew will retreat and you will lose the boarding.
Use the Puckle gun, ropes, and pulleys to your advantage to reach your objectives and avoid the massive fight that is happening on the decks.

5.4.3 Boarding outcome[edit | edit source]

When all objectives are completed, the enemy crew will surrender. You can then decide their destiny. You can capture the enemy ship to add it to your fleet, use parts of it to repair your own ship, or salvage it for resources. Whatever your decision, you will also claim all of the ship’s cargo and make it your own.

5.5 Cargo and resources[edit | edit source]

5.5.1 Gathering resources[edit | edit source]

By boarding and plundering ships you will gain cargo resources. Small quantities of cargo can be found floating at sea or on the ground. Several locations, such as warehouses, settlements, and supply camps also conceal cargo deposits, which you can claim after completing certain tasks there.
Your ship has a limited cargo capacity, so don’t forget to sell cargo or upgrade your ship's storage.

5.5.2 Resource types and function[edit | edit source]

There are five types of cargo resources in the game. Wood is the most common cargo resource and it is required to build new upgrades for your ship. Metal is uncommon and is required for upgrades too. Cloth is quite common and is mainly used for cosmetic ship upgrades. Stone is used when renovating buildings. Tobacco is a rare resource that can be sold for money at a Harbourmaster's.

5.6 Ship upgrades[edit | edit source]

Ship upgrades are necessary if you want to progress as a captain in the colonies. You can acquire new ship upgrades either from a Harbourmaster's or directly from your Captain’s cabin. Some upgrades will improve your hull’s resistance or your storage capacities, while others will increase your firepower or the number of cannons. Some can even provide you with new types of weapons.
To build upgrades, you will need money and resources. You can find resources by attacking other ships, then boarding them and plundering their cargo.

5.7 Wanted system[edit | edit source]

Defeating and plundering ships can get you into trouble. After you defeat an enemy ship, your Wanted meter will increase, and a high-security zone will appear around your position. Upon reaching a certain Wanted level, enemy ships will come after you. To lower your Wanted level you must keep out of high-security zones. The higher your Wanted Level is, the stronger your hunters will be.

6.1 Ground HUD[edit | edit source]

6.1.1 Life bar[edit | edit source]

The life bar indicates how much health you currently have. Get out of combat to rest up and regenerate your health.

6.1.2 Weapon icon[edit | edit source]

Indicates your currently equipped weapon.

6.1.3 Tool icon[edit | edit source]

If a ranged weapon is selected, the bars next to the icon indicate how many shots you have available before reloading.

6.1.4 Puppeteer[edit | edit source]

Indicates the available action. Actions in the puppeteer will change based on the contextual actions and the equipped tool and weapon.

The SSI (Social Status Indicator) tells you if an enemy is in conflict or looking for you. When the enemy SSI is yellow it means that they are alerted to your presence. Red SSI means that the enemy is in conflict or chasing you and that they have a direct line of sight.

6.1.7 Mini-map[edit | edit source]

The mini-map displays the location of various important objectives. A good way to reveal the mini-map is to look for viewpoints at the top of buildings and synchronize the view. Your next main line story mission is always indicated with a (!).

6.1.8 Gas mask indicator[edit | edit source]

The gas mask indicator appears when you use your gas mask to counter a threat. When the threat is over, Shay removes the mask and the icon disappears.

6.1.9 Wanted level indicator[edit | edit source]

The Wanted level indicator shows up as a number of red icons. When you kill a civilian the icons begin filling up. Whenever an icon fills up, a group of very powerful enemies is sent to hunt you down. Your Wanted level will decrease with time, as long as you are not killing civilians. 0x2484023091

If a segment is entirely depleted, it must be repaired by a Harbourmaster. You can increase your ship’s resistance by upgrading your hull.

6.2.2 Weapon icon[edit | edit source]

Indicates your currently available weapon. The weapon will change based on your camera orientation.

6.2.3 Puppeteer[edit | edit source]

6.2.5 Crew meter[edit | edit source]

Indicates how much crew you have left for boarding enemy ships. When your crew meter is depleted, the boarding fails. Build a strong crew to board the largest ships.

6.2.6 Sail status[edit | edit source]

Displays the speed you are currently in. The icons turn red when you are in conflict with enemy ships.

6.2.7 Mini-map[edit | edit source]

The mini-map displays the surrounding locations and activities in the world. Capture naval forts to reveal the secrets of a location. 0x2484023090

7.1 Detection loop[edit | edit source]

7.1.1 Incognito state[edit | edit source]

When you are incognito (guards are ignoring your presence) guards will react only to dead bodies or illegal actions (killing, pushing them, looting, pickpocketing, and so on). If you don't do any of these actions, you will remain anonymous.

7.1.2 Restricted areas[edit | edit source]

These protected areas are under strict control and no one is supposed to enter them. The enemies will become hostile and attack you if they see you standing in a restricted area for more than a few seconds.

7.1.3 Escape[edit | edit source]

Enemies in conflict with you (red marker) will keep chasing until you break the line of sight with them and hide.

7.1.4 Vanish (hide and blend)[edit | edit source]

Jump in a hay bale, hide in dense vegetation, blend with the crowd, sit on a bench between some people, or jump into a well to escape from enemies that are chasing or investigating you. Some enemies will search the area rather than chase after you, so keep in mind that you may have to kill them as well.

The Database contains several sections: Animus database, e-manual, statistics, and online leaderboards.
In the Animus database, you can view information about the people you’ve met, places you’ve visited, and other fascinating tidbits. The database also allows you to view unlocked artwork and read letters.

8.2.7 Options[edit | edit source]

You can change the various game settings in this menu.

Brutes are tough, strong enemies with a powerful melee attack that can't be parried. When you see one winding up, dodge.
Watchers are fast but frail enemies who prefer ranged weapons and is better at detecting you.
Seekers are quick, versatile enemies who use bombs and whose attacks cannot be Perfectly Parried. They can also break up groups of civilians, destroying your ability to Crowd Blend.
Defenders are slow, tough enemies who require a sustained series of focused attacks to wear down. They're most dangerous in a group, as they can absorb a great deal of punishment while their friends dish out damage.
