River Nene

The River Nene is a river that flows on the east of Leicestershire, north of Cambridgeshire, and south of Lincolnshire.

History[edit | edit source]

Viking Age[edit | edit source]

In 873, the Vikings warriors Sigurd Styrbjornsson and Eivor Varinsdottir of the Raven Clan claimed land at an abandoned Ragnarsson camp along the River Nene in southern Ledecestrescire. After defeating the Saxon bandits and rescuing Yanli and Rowan, the Raven Clan quickly set up their settlement, Ravensthorpe.[1]

By 879, Persian merchant Azar came by the river to arrive at Ravensthorpe and established a trading post in Eivor's settlement. At the docks, Azar extended an invitation to jarlskona Eivor from King Bárid mac Ímair of Dublin, Eivor's cousin in Ireland, to which Eivor accepted.[2]

In 889, after all of her adventures, Eivor felt at ease to leave her settlement. At the docks, she readied a rowboat on the river as seeress Valka went to see her off. After their conversation, Eivor and Valka embraced one last time as she left on the rowboat, with her vision of Odin with her on the boat.[3]
