Jacques Cassard (1679 – 1740) was French merchant who later served as a privateer and French Navy admiral in the early 18th century. In 1711, Cassard embarked on an expedition to the Caribbean, intending to plunder territories held by the Kingdom of France's enemies in the War of the Spanish Succession. Sailing out from Toulon, his crew included the criminal Alonzo Batilla, then under the alias of Jean.

During the expedition, Cassard raided many of the European powers' lands, including the British Empire's colonies of Montserrat and Antigua in the Lesser Antilles. The expedition was a success, with the total plunder amounting to £10 million. While Cassard was satisfied with his mens' service, he lamented their uncivilized behavior, predicting that they would return to criminal activity upon returning to France.
