The Bab Ariha, also known as the Gate of Jericho, was one of the eight gates in the wall of Jerusalem. As the city's main entrance into its Rich District, it was the most heavily guarded gate.[1]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
Bab Ariha is Arabic, composed of the words بَابُ (bab), meaning 'door, gate', and أريحا, (ariha), meaning 'scent'. The gate is fictional but its design is a hybrid between the Damascus Gate and Lions' Gate in Jerusalem. However, this is anachronistic, as the Damascus Gate was built in 1537[2] and the Lions' Gate from 1538–39.[3]
