Alnilam
Alnilam (died 860s) was a criminal who worked in Baghdad in the 860s and conspired with his triplet brothers to terrorize local merchants with the help of bandits and the Turkic military.
Biography[edit | edit source]
In the 860s, Alnilam and his brothers initiated a plan by having bandits attack their local merchants and steal their products.[1] As a result, the merchant guild dispatched a delegate to procure the aid of the Hidden Ones in tracking down the traitor, by using marked coins to locate the traitor's whereabouts.[2] Ultimately, the Hidden One Basim Ibn Ishaq tracked a perfume trader,[3] and then concluded that he was behind the attacks.[4]
Upon their brother's assassination,[4] Alnilam and Alnitak retaliated by having the delegate taken by bandits for the murder of their brother. Yet, Basim managed to save the delegate,[5] who responded by having a fake message sent out to lure out the remaining mastermind. Both brothers responded to the message and met at Qasr Salih gate, where Basim spotted and realized their familial relationship. When Alnilam felt uneasy over the meeting, both brothers regressed into Qasr Salih, where he oversaw the docks while Alnitak presided over their men. However, Basim found and killed the brothers for their attacks against the local merchants.[1]
